Appearing on CNN with Anderson Cooper, singer Linda Ronstadt compared President Trump to Hitler and says she sees “great parallels” between the United States now and the Weimar Republic in Germany.
Anderson Cooper:
I’ve read that you have read a lot about the Weimar Republic in Germany, and you sort of see parallels between then and now.
Linda Ronstadt:
Great parallels. I mean the intelligentsia of Berlin and literati and all artists were just doing their thing, and as Hitler rose to power, there were a lot of chances to stop him, and they didn’t speak out. The industrial complex thought they could control him once they got him in office, and of course, he was not controllable.
By the time he got established, he put his own people in place and stacked the courts and did what he had to do to consolidate his power, and we got Hitler. He destroyed Germany, destroyed centuries of intellectual history, forward and backward. People like Beethoven, Goethe, and Thomas Mann became jokes. They became Nazi laughing stocks.

I think a lot of people would be surprised to hear comparisons between what happened then and now.
Linda Ronstadt:
If you read the history, you won’t be surprised. It is exactly the same. You find a common enemy for everybody to hate. I was sure that Trump was going to get elected the day he announced. I said he’s going to—it is going to be like Hitler and the Mexicans are the new Jews. And sure enough, that is what he delivered.
And she implies that, if we read it too, we could see the error of our ways and agree completely with her!
Remember, Ms Jett, it’s better to leave your mouth closed and let people wonder if you’re a total idiot rather than open it and remove all doubt.

This article says much more about how pathetic and desperate Anderson Cooper and CNN are than how brain-dead Ronstadt is. I would expect nothing less from Ronstadt than some inane statement about Trump being Hitler. But CNN still pretends to be a "news" network. And Anderson Cooper allegedly is one of its "star" reporters. And here he is, interviewing some old, washed up, bitterly partisan singer. Why? If he's going to interview her, ask her questions about singing. Why go into politics unless you are that desperate for a sound bite from anyone who will say "Trump is Hitler." CNN is in the toilet and not coming out.
Do liberals understand who Hitler was? Do they know what Hitler and the Nazis did? Maybe she should read a book called “5 Chimneys” and tell me how the hell that compares to Donald Trump.
