MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County now has 14 cases of confirmed dengue fever this year.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County issued a mosquito-borne illness alert Monday afternoon after two Miami-Dade residents came down with symptoms.

The latest cases were locally acquired and are linked to a travel-related case previously reported, according to the DOH-Miami-Dade.

Dengue is spread through mosquito bites through the Aedes mosquitoes which also spread chikungunya and the Zika virus.

Though rarely fatal, those that develop symptoms recover in about a week.

Heard this measles alert story on the radio in Virginia yesterday:

“Health department officials in Chicago, Austin, Texas, and Richmond, Virginia have issued new warnings about potential measles exposures at locations including airports. All appear tied to one traveler who visited all three airports.

“The person contracted measles while traveling in Europe from late November to early December and became sick on Dec. 14, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The person developed a rash on Dec. 17, and boarded United Airlines Flight 790 that same day from Austin to Chicago with a connecting flight to Virginia, the paper said.

‘The reports are in addition to earlier December reports of possible exposure of the highly contagious disease at Los Angeles International Airport and Denver International Airport.’

Help me understand this measles stuff. When we were kids ,in the 50’s my friends, classmates and later in the 70’s and 80’s my kids etc all got the measles. it wasn’t a big deal unless you were pregnant. You missed several days of school and life went on.. I had German measles which was verified later by a blood test and I don’t remember having them . Is there a different strain or what?

Thank you. Yes, I am over the dengue. I think it was 2013 that I had it.

Every wild animal/insect in FL wants to kill you:

Florida’s orange groves maintained a steady bear population.

As new housing projects replace orange groves in my Florida home county, “bear warning” signs have doubled the area affected.

My Miami doctor suggested dengue fever as a possibility in my mid-1980s complaint of fever.

Oh good, introducing foreign pathogens into American life. Just one more item used in the war against the American people by foreign entities and our very own domestic politicians and their supporters

This is one of the reasons we live in the rural desert southwest.

Walk through the streets of San Francisco and risk catching dung fever carried on the bottom of your shoes.
