CNN Pays 58 Airports $100,000 Each to Play Channel at Gates

Tucker Carlson Tonight reported CNN is spending millions of dollars to have their channel played at fifty-eight airports across the United States.

As Carlson explained, CNN is paying the airports approximately $100,000 each to “pump propaganda into America’s airports, holding its hapless travelers hostage.”

He commented: “It’s not something [the airports] would do willingly. Who would? Nobody watches [CNN] – it’s garbage.”

“This service is likely costing CNN six million dollars a year,” Carlson explained. “But they do it anyway because what’s the value of propaganda?”

Carlson was joined by author and commentator Mark Steyn to further discuss the topic.

“They pay over six millions dollars to bother people, to hector people in airports,” Steyn said. He suggested, “You know for six millions dollars they could actually afford to buy Murder She Wrote reruns…and they might actually have a sporting chance at some ratings.”

“I was at LAX yesterday while the anchors were talking about what a sad, somber, solemn, sorrowful day it is,” Steyn continued. “And people did look sad, somber, sorrowful, and solemn – but that was because they had been stuck at gate 59 watching Wolf Blitzer for four hours.”

Multi-year contracts with annual payments. $100k/yr is low for big airports.

Since most big airports are government owned, contracts are public, if one can figure out where to look.

If they do that, I will never fly again. I hate commercials of any type. They are designed to con weak minded fools into believing that they need what is being advertised. It is sick and shows how pathetic people are becoming. IMO.

Why not play some screeching Yoko Ono instead?

Now THAT is definitely more worth the while than CNN!

Um- that would be like a person- business owner, paying $6,000,000 just to have people walk by their store front- Certainly this can’t be a lucrative business deal-

let’s say 200 people decide to shop as a result during the year- they purchase say 200 items for about $100 apiece- the store makes a profit of say 20% on each item- that’s a $8000 profit- (Ugg my math is probably wrong!)

anyways- the point is that spending $6,000,000 to get back several thousand doesn’t seem like a winning strategy

Are they really getting any propaganda benefit out of this?
Unless there’s actual breaking news like a mass shooting, EVERYBODY at the airport is on their phones or laptops.
I flew this month and couldn’t even tell you if there was a TV at the gate.

An CNN gets $1 per month from every cable and satellite subscriber whether they watch it or not. That’s $12 a year timex 90 million subscribers or $1.08 BILLION before they take in any ad revenue.

So let me say it again in case someone here might wish to understand how CNN works: They get a billion dollars a year just for being carried on cable and satellite, regardless of how many people watch.

So what if they pay $5.8 million to airports? That’s pocket change for CNN.

From my own observations, everyone in airports are staring at their phones, not CNN.
