Who might deliver us from this national train wreck? Who could restore a sense of balance to the Senate trial so that, whatever its outcome, it doesnt feed Trumps false narrative of victimization and populist rage? Theres one obvious answer: Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and custodian of what remains of his partys moral and political balance.
History is knocking on Romneys door. This is his moment to step away from a president who holds him in contempt and to speak for principle by insisting that the Senate conduct an actual trial and weigh the Houses allegations that Trump abused power and obstructed Congress. This simple stand for an impartial trial (if backed by several more brave Republicans) would restore sanity to this process. Trump would probably still be acquitted, but it wouldnt be in a firestorm of partisan rage
Youre probably sick of quotes from the Federalist Papers, but try just one more, from Alexander Hamilton about the Senates role in impeachment: Where else than in the Senate could have been found a tribunal sufficiently dignified, or sufficiently independent? What other body would be likely to feel confidence enough in its own situation, to preserve, unawed and uninfluenced, the necessary impartiality between an individual accused, and the representatives of the people, his accusers?
Read that passage carefully, Sen. Romney. Hamilton is talking across the centuries to you.

It ain’t just PDJT that hold mittens in contempt.
The writer needs to stop drinking the bong water....
Just commented on a Hill article regarding the Susan Collins.
We’ll see Plenty of these in the next days or however long.
It’s desperation and only if one doesn’t see the obvious and honestly weak strategy being deployed here, would they barf.
I’m kind of enjoying it.
“...custodian of what remains of his partys moral and political balance...”
He should have choked to death on that BS.
the dc elites are worried...cheerleading for willard mittens
The Deep State is so desperate so they send Ignatius out there to practically beg Mittens to fight for a Senate trial. They have zip, nada, nothing on this president.
David “Ignoramus” Ignatious is the author and you could have saved me click if you had included the author in the post, which I did not you could do...
Many of these Senators will stay away from this impeachment mess as it is rapidly becoming radioactive.
Hopefully they realize that if they vote to remove the President, they will forever be voted out of the majority and serve under a Democrat president. And conservatives will begin to rise up to throw them ALL out of office.
It’s far worse than that.
what happened to willards ‘moral balance’ when he tied his dog to the hood of his station wagon?
Press (never trumper mag) orally cleansing Rino’s posterior orifice so the Rino’s can feel loved by the press till they get what they want. Err they’re never going to love you, Mit thy’re plying you.
I hope Romney realizes if things had been a little different a while back, this would have been his impeachment. No rational democrat accusations required.
It’s funny how they start with bipartisan beyond a shadow of doubt, then go with Schiff’s secret hearings, then Nadless’ charade, second-tier experts, one of whom doesn’t even support their theory, then a completely fabricated set of articles that their fearless leader is shared skitless to send to the Senate, and now they’re down to begging Mittens to save them.
And the idiot on CNN hasn’t a clue why popluar support is making a major shift toward Trump.
They just wrote another one about Susie Collins. Trying to warm up our traitors.
Hot Air indeed!
More precisely, POS...
What trial? They haven’haven’t received the aricles yet. So what is this old fool saying?
