The winter is a rough time for stray animals, many of them die from the freezing temperatures. Thankfully, an animal lover is saving the furry creatures by providing them with a warm place to sleep.
A man named Philip Rogich (also known as the Batman of Ogden), based in Ogden, Utah is building shelters from upcycled coolers for stray and feral cats to sleep during the cold season. He was inspired by a man on Facebook making these cooler shelters, and he decided to try making them too. Then he posted on Facebook asking people to give up their discarded or unwanted coolers, and it took off. Rogich has already made 77 cooler shelters and has enough coolers to make 15 more.

As long as these cats are getting “fixed” somewhere during the process, I am all for it.
The first step is getting them to trust you. Then you can get them to a vet for “fixing.”
Get them to trust you and then betray them!
There’s a guy in Hoover AL doing the same thing. My wife’s best friend checks them for him occasionally.
That’s a nifty idea, as long as the stacks don’t slide off.
Maybe they are secured to something solid.
My first question is are these disposed of and replaced, or must the coolers be cleaned? If that part could be organized w/o being too labor intensive, it’s a good idea.
Check once and a while to make sure no snakes, possums or raccoons have decided to take up residence.
Feral cats trusting a human? a tall order.
The coolers would be small to use for a litter place. Strays would just shelter in them & then go outside for defecating. Fleas might take up residence in the straw, but if you had strays using these shelters you’d probably only change the straw when the weather changed.
What a great idea! I have a female cat with two kittens living under the deck across the street. They’re probably warm in this extreme weather but maybe it might help if I made one of these cooler houses..........
Last spring I had over 30,,around my property...and a nearby lake.
“The discarded coolers” sounds like a good name for a rock and roll band... :)
I have seen these shelters and the colony of ferals. They live right behind a vet’s office. God bless these himans. Overnight temps dropped into the hi 20’s, 2X this week.

Provide free stuff to animals or humans and in short order you can easily trap any of the takers to get their nuts cut.
I made a shelter out of a styro cooler. Cats liked it! An opossum moved in for a while, but that was fun too, they are pretty cool even though messy.
I modded a have-a-hart so that I could remotely trigger it so i could trap specific cats (no point trapping the same one five times) and take them off to be fixed.
Some humans have a knack.
LOL
