A nuclear attack on US soil would most likely target one of six cities: New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.
But public-health experts say any of those cities would struggle to provide emergency services to the wounded.
The cities also no longer have designated fallout shelters to protect people from radiation.

The chance that a nuclear bomb would strike a US city is slim, but nuclear experts say it's not out of the question.
A nuclear attack in a large metropolitan area is one of the 15 disaster scenarios for which the US Federal Emergency Management Agency has an emergency strategy. The agency's plan involves deploying first responders, providing immediate shelter for evacuees, and decontaminating victims who have been exposed to radiation.

No. Cover yourself with bacon, then wrap yourself in tin foil and lay in your bath tub. I know youre saying Whaaaat? Look your ass is fried. Do this and at least you wont smell bad. Oh yeah, kiss your buttocks goodbye too.
With both Russian, and now Chinese nuke subs regularly off our coasts, 15 minutes should get you a nice 3 course meal.

Yes, for all of us. That’s why my FR homepage is the way that it is.

TDS all the way, too. Both of them.
DC. Hmmm.
The targeting of cities which serve the destruction of America is a silly assumption. Pick cities that defend the Constitution and are conservative in their moral perspective, if you want to see which cities the enemy OUTSIDE the country hate. These same cities and supporting suburbs are hated by the demon rat party, so their allies would ahte these also.
Sure.
Bend over grab your cheeks
And kiss your ass goodbye
“New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.”
Check,
check,
kinda sadz but check,
Check,
yes, and -please- film with high speed Imax cam so we can watch again and again,
and last, pour a nice glass of whiskey for me, pop champagne for the ladies, and hope some damned continuity of government plan doesn’t work.
If they get us nuked, we ought to at least get a new government outta the deal.
“Can one prepare?”
I believe raising taxes is all that is needed. It works for everything else.
That same memo was in a missile command bunker in SD. Our guide said it was a cruel joke.
Well if you’re not at ground zero where everything gets turned to ash in seconds, the only thing you have to worry about is fallout(that radioactive ash) Three foot of soil above you, HEPA filters going to air intakes with a 180 degree/elbow so the opening faces down, plenty of water, food and buckets to poop in for a couple/few weeks and you’d probably be ok.
After reading “Killing the Raising Sun”, the best way to prepare is to either be far away from cities or be right at ground zero and be instantly vaporized.
Why Colorado Springs??? That's a conservative bastion.
“a single 25 MT nuclear bomb would render all fallout shelters up to 25 miles from Ground Zero effectively useless”
That’s why they are called “fallout shelters”. So you don’t die from the blast that hit 45 miles upwind. In other news, the helmets fighter pilots wear don’t protect you when you hit a mountain at 600 knots.
I’d bet New Orleans should be on that list. Nuking NO would totally disrupt the major port in the USA. The grain from the entire midwest exports through NO and much else.
Couldn’t we just declare “Nuclear Bomb-Free Zone”?
I mean, that works so well otherwise.
We just have to put up signs. And raise taxes (as someone suggested).
Maybe a march or a candlelight vigil.
8. Epstein didn’t kill himself.
Funny you should mention the 1971 Sylmar quake.
Years ago, I lived in Santa Barbara, California.
At the time of the 1971 Sylmar earthquake, a guy who was a first officer on a Sea-Land contained ship told me that in 1971, he and his parents lived in Glendale, California.
He was getting dressed when the 6:01 AM quake struck.
He told me, “I thought the Russians were here with the bombs!”
