India has certainly picked a challenging battlefield. While I agree with their reasons, having seen how heavily integrated the muslim community is throughout their major areas, it’s easy to see that this is just the beginning of a massive confrontation between the powers.
I expect we will see more and more brain drain of their finest minds to the USA and not returning, unless the government crushes, and I mean absolutely destroys any and all opposition to this policy.
I don’t give a rat’s ass if it “marginalizes” muslims. What about the laws in muslim countries that marginalizes everyone BUT muslims?

I don’t know about that. My country has excellent relations with the Hindu I Israel. Same bad neighborhood, I suppose.
From what I understand, the main issue some Indians have with Nazarenes is it breaks down the caste system and is a vestige of English occupation.
Muslims did that to themselves. How many non-muslims have they killed in the last 20 years; let alone 150 years.
Or more specifically, “ethnically diverse” = millions of Muslim Bangladeshis who have illegally crossed the border. Modi should build a wall between the two countries.
The essence of the issue of the bill is, and isn’t about a “Muslim identity”.
It is offering amnesty to illegal immigrants from neigboring Muslim majority countries, and it particularly singles out those who are minorities in those countries.
And because of that focus it denies that illegals who are Muslims from those Muslim majority countries, need the protections and legal residency the bill offers to the illegal immigrants who are not Muslim from those countries.
It is saying to places like Pakistan and Bangladesh - you can take care of your own Muslim citizens, but we will accept for legal residence here those who are illegal immigrants from among the minorities in your country.
What the majority in India knows is that the Muslim population in India is accepted and protected in India, unlike the religious minorities in places next doot like Pakistan. The bill is asking why should India pretend that is not true.
