Climate scientists try to cut their own carbon footprints
Associated Press ^ | December 8, 2019 | Seth Borenstein

Posted on 12/08/2019 7:41:10 AM PST by Olog-hai

For years, Kim Cobb was the Indiana Jones of climate science. The Georgia Tech professor flew to the caves of Borneo to study ancient and current climate conditions. She jetted to a remote South Pacific island to see the effects of warming on coral. […]

Now she is about to ground herself, and she is not alone. Some climate scientists and activists are limiting their flying, their consumption of meat and their overall carbon footprints to avoid adding to the global warming they study. Cobb will fly just once next year, to attend a massive international science meeting in Chile. […]

The issue divides climate scientists and activists and plays out on social media. Texas Tech’s Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist who flies once a month, often to talk to climate doubters in the evangelical Christian movement, was blasted on Twitter because she keeps flying.

Hayhoe and other still-flying scientists note that aviation is only 3% of global carbon emissions.

Jonathan Foley, executive director of the climate solutions think-tank Project Drawdown, limits his airline trips but will not stop flying because, he says, he must meet with donors to keep his organization alive. He calls flight shaming “the climate movement eating its own.” …

Perhaps instead of staying home a bit more, some of these so-called “climate scientists” might want to enroll in a local community-college and start taking some beginning physics and math courses. It’ll be hard for them, given their demonstrated lack of ability to analyze data and make correct predictions.

It’s not necessary to travel far and wide to write fiction. But doing that does make it seem like you don’t buy what you’re selling.

A lot of those community colleges have substitute professors teaching the physics classes even for scientists and engineers, i.e. the ones with calculus.

She should walk to Chile. Plenty of immigrants were making the reverse trek on foot.

Maybe she can even ride through Mexico on top of a train. visitors are encourged to do that whilst traveling to Estados Stupidos.

The Wizard of Oz doesn’t have to go anywhere around the world.

SKYPE there instead.

BEHOLD THE POWERFUL WIZARD OF OZ

pay no attention to the little woman behind the curtain.

Could this pious effort to reduce the scientists’ carbon footprints be motivated by Trump’s EPA putting the brakes on grants of taxpayer cash to over 8,000 “scientists”?
They certainly don’t intend to spend their own money to sell this hoax.

Who pays them? That’s how you know if they’re real scientists or government-paid propaganda experts.

If you could read their minds, you'd find these "climate scientists" themselves don't believe the bullsh*t they're selling. They just discovered it pays well (and far better than the climate skeptics who can't find jobs). And who doesn't want to take exotic vacations in Borneo?

But now the ride is coming to an end.

Look at the Project Drawdown guy practically boasting that he flies to meet with his donors. The same people will “flight-shame” the “little guy”, Thunberg-style.

I have another suggestion. Butt I’ll keep it to myself. A hint is that it involves a short pier.

“will not stop flying because, he says, he must meet with donors “

Sometimes it’s best to just let your opposition speak.

Fortunately, self-sacrificing climate-alarmed guys are shielding vulnerable poor people by kindly buying up doomed, low-lying island/coastal properties (Obama=$15m waterfront mansion in Martha’s Vineyard; Gore =$8.9m ocean-view villa in Montecito, CA; DiCaprio a couple of Caribbean islands!!) to absorb the *inevitable* losses caused by the rising seas.

I thought that the name of the Texas Tech woman, Katharine Hayhoe, was some kind of parody, never mind her efforts to fly to meet so-called “climate doubters in the evangelical Christian movement”.

“Cobb will fly just once next year, to attend a massive international science meeting in Chile.”

What! No buses or trains?

Follow the money, always. That’s what it’s about for these scientists. Nothing more. Politicians push for climate change because it’s another avenue of control over the citizens. Politicians control tax dollars. These scientists like dollars.

It would be more convincing if they started evacuating low lying coastal areas and forbid the sale of any of those properties.

No reason all these international meetings can’t be done via conference call.

They can enroll in a basic statistics course here and take it online.

It won’t even increase their carbon footrints.
