A 79-year-old former Delta Air Lines flight attendant is suing the airline after being fired over accusations that she swiped a carton of milk and other on-flight goods.
Ida Gomez Llanos, who worked for the company for 57 years, claims she was the victim of a smear campaign orchestrated by envious colleagues who wanted her gone because of her seniority and whopping $250,000 salary.
The lawsuit, filed this month in a Los Angeles court, claims she was harassed and bullied, and that the spreading of lies led to her being penalized and eventually terminated.
I couldnt believe it, Llanos told the Daily Mail. Ive been accused of so many things and none were true. I try not to take it personally, but when you get mean about me and start lying, that is a problem.
Llanos, who was reportedly the highest-ranking flight attendant in Los Angeles and ranked fifth in the country, said she received her first write-up in nearly 60 years in April 2018. She had been accused of stealing a carton of milk, as well as cereal packets and a chocolate bar. Colleagues also claimed Llanos put Baileys Irish Cream in her coffee.
They want to get rid of the older flight attendants, she said. I think they put us on a higher surveillance. Its because they have to pay us so much because weve been there forever and your pay scale goes up each year. I think they can hire four newer flight attendants for what they pay me.

The real story is a 80 year old flight attendant making 250K with age discrimination laws and a union. I wouldnt want grandma in charge during a water landing.
Yet another reason to pull the plug on them!
she wasnt union.
These are rough routes.
There is no fun in being a stew at any age.
I will probably retire before I reach 80, but for $250,000 a year I might keep working.
“Colleagues also claimed Llanos put Baileys Irish Cream in her coffee.”
OMG! Throw the book at her.
Interesting. . .I though stewardesses as a whole have a collective union.
Thanks.
And as ALL stewardesses will scold you, they are their for your safety, not to serve you.
an 80-yr old stewardess. . .I doubt she can open an emergency door.
I suspect she was set up by someone who wanted to get rid of her.
Could be that even IF she did take something, it was expired and going to be tossed anyways.
It’s not uncommon for people to do that if they know it’ll be thrown out anyways.
IMO, once someone decides it’s trash, it’s fair game.
Most make far less than that.
“If people are really infirm they wouldnt have their jobs.”
Not really, an age discrimination case would be filed before she was dismissed. And like I posted earlier, I’ve seen fat stewardess that couldn’t walk down the aisle without turning sideways, and hips bouncing off each saisle seat/passenger. And seen a very short stweardess who couldn’t reach high enough to close the over-head bins.
How there got hired, let alone pass the physical test, God knows.
“These jobs are similar in some respects to waitressing and there are a lot of older waitresses.”
Yes, and when they drop a plate or get the order wrong, you don’t die. Heck, I was just at an IHOP and our ancient waitress stacked plates in her arms to deliver the meals, never mind she had her thumbs buried in the pancakes in two plates. She had no clue about it, when pointed out the thumb prints, she was shocked and told me she washed her hands so no need to get another order. (Her arms had two band-aides in her arms).
We point out a stewardess is a safety role, not a coffee-serving role.
At her age I have serious doubts she can physically do the job.
How about a pilot with the same age? Pilot age out via FAA regs, and when the FAA was researching the upper age limit to fly as a commercial pilot, they discovered a significant drop in situational awareness and fine motor skills. Since her job is flight safety-related, she experiences the same degradation.
And it’s no fun to be assisted/served by an old and bitter stew. . .even in Business Class internationally.
“Wow, all this sounds very petty. I wonder what the real story is...”
It sounds like the real story is what she said.
They wanted her gone so they fabricated reason to get rid of her.
Typical corporate BS.
I would think it would be awesome to see someone at her age doing the job, a big loss to lose someone with her experience.
nope. 65 now.
You wouldnt say that if you were making that money and got the shaft would you now?No you wouldnt. The woman got a raw deal and will get one hell of a payout now.
She has seniority.she is number 5 on the list.
You can count on it.
Ha, tell that to the mechanics and the pilots.
I would guess you think ruth bader ginsberg is OK doing her job?
Ah yes I do remember now that changed.
