Whoever wrote “pig” on the cups should’ve been fired on the spot.

But, per the article, this manager isn’t the one who put “pig” on the cups.

IF this manager is telling the truth, then he handled the situation responsibly.

100% agree. And whatever he was saving his money for was his own business.

Exactly. His personal issue is a completely different matter. Maybe his personal issue wouldn’t have been mentioned if he hadn’t mentioned it to the reporter.

Of course, for all we know, the manager could be leaving out some details. Maybe there were other problems at that store under this manager, and this was the final straw for Starbucks.

Whatever the case, IMHO, whoever shared the photo of the “pig” cup did nothing wrong.

What the employee did was wrong. It was up to Starbucks to fire the right person(s).

It depends, and being starbucks, I’m not sure what kind of investigation they did. But suppose they found that the servers regularly played “practical jokes” like this, and the manager had encouraged them or allowed it and made it seem like it was acceptable.

The company may have just decided that wasn’t what they wanted in a manager. She said she saw the muffin; but she didn’t then ask if they had labeled anything else wrong; she apologized, but then allowed them to give out the cups; she might have violated company policy in trying to offer the department free drinks if they came back, rather than working through the corporate legal and/or customer relations department.

It could also be that when she spoke with them later, she said something about being childish for posting to facebook, and just made matters worse.

We don’t have the entire story.
