Walmart employees aren't paid extra on Thanksgiving, shoppers threatening boycott

Walmart shoppers are threatening to boycott the store after discovering employees aren't paid extra to work on Thanksgiving.

Instead, Walmart offers them 10% and 15% discounts to shop in its store. The 15% discount is only available Dec. 5 and Dec. 6.

Walmart said the policy has been in place for three years.

"We simplified our paid time-off policies in 2016 to combine vacation, holiday, sick and personal time into one bucket," Walmart said in a statement. "As part of that change, we no longer offer holiday pay. We did this to give our associates greater flexibility and more choice to use their time off when and how they want to. Also as part of that change, associates can now roll over and cash out unused time off at the end of the fiscal year."

Exactly, as well as hospital workers, etc.

The unions are behind this Walmart smear campaign. They HATE it that they cannot get their foot in the door at Walmart, one of the worlds largest employers.

Can anyone think of a business boycott that accomplished something?

Not a sarcastic question, I’m curious if boycotts have worked.

If the sheeple would stop shopping on Thanksgiving day, the giant retailers would get the hint and stop opening on Thanksgiving day, and then nobody would be forced to work and ruin their families’ holiday.

Most Walmart positions are entry level jobs. Do you think a stocker should be paid as much as a LEO, who is highly trained and puts their life on the line every day??

Exactly. Refuse to shop the day before Black Friday, even at 11:59 p.m.

I remember back in the day companies would pay any person working a major holiday double time or extra days vacation.

My mom worked at a phone company. Women phone operators with no family or no where to go loved working on Christmas day because they would get triple time.

A crafting friend of mine works at Walmart. The employees are treated like absolute CRAP, and not just during the holiday season. There’s no particular reason; it’s just because they can.

It’s almost like emotional abuse, and the employees are the victims of Stockholm Syndrome. I’m no bleeding heart, and hated whiners when I worked in H.R., but there’s a line and Walmart corporate has crossed it.

“Walmart shoppers are threatening to boycott the store after discovering employees aren’t paid extra to work on Thanksgiving.”

Yeah, because Walmart shoppers are all about solidarity with Walmart workers...

The additional discount is extra compensation with no tax burden!

It couldn’t have been about THE MONEY could it?

There’s that word again, “choice”.

“associates”, now there’s another liberal word slipped into the lexicon, when they really wanted to use “comrades”.

What was wrong with “employees”?

Same with my firefighter hubby. We used to have our holidays on whatever days he had off. We just worked around his schedule. But that doesn’t fit in to today’s whiner mentality.

“A crafting friend of mine works at Walmart. The employees are treated like absolute CRAP, and not just during the holiday season”

Amazon is the same way. A guy in my hometown was delivery drive. They would keep upping his delivery production so it was near impossible to meet. He never took a break or lunch.

He said it was a relief when he backed in to a woman minor fender bender and he was fired. Amazon after any accident no matter how small you are fired.

If Walmart closed on holidays, the whining sheeple would be pounding on the doors and protesting closures because they forgot to buy a turkey until that morning.

Exactly. Why are stores open on Thanksgiving anyway? Who demanded this?
