Todays Cryptogram
QHUVHQRC QU SOXOYQRVXC; CGN JVH FOR QR MXGE CGNX JSQDYXOH. UVE DOTOHUGH
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
I CANT CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF THE WIND, BUT I CAN ADJUST MY SAILS TO ALWAYS REACH MY DESTINATION.JIMMY DEAN
Solving without any aid or writing takes forever but puts my brain into overdrive because I have to hold several things in memory simultaneously while reasoning through the puzzle.
Are you using Hal?
Guess the fourth word. The fifth word is superfluous. It could be removed or replaced with “WILL”.
I got the two-letter word; then the word after the punctuation, then the 3-letter word after that falls into your hand. Then I recognized the author and remembered the quote. 1 min.
A teacher from long ago, thanks to Steve Allen & Co.
Get the first 2 letter word on 1st stab and EVERYTHING slides into place.....
I remember him well.
there are many quotes out there by him.....
There are only so many CGN...CGNX solutions. That did it for me.
I was thinking THE and THEN/THEY for a while. Do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
Yep, that was my first try as well...didn’t lead anywhere, and then the next combo did. Winning!
Wild guessing on the short words and many restarts eventually did it.
Thanks for that link...a familiar definition, of course, and it seems we both eventually moved away from it. So we’re on the safe side, I guess.
Have a great weekend!
No. Tried it a couple of times. The solution came very quickly; virtually no mental work. Kind of defeats the purpose.
No pencil either.
I couldn’t do this without Hal - I don’t seem to have the gift.
