Gov. Kay Ivey tweeted that Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams had been tragically killed in the line of duty and that she offered her prayers and sympathy to his family and the Lowndes County Sheriffs Department. Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham told news outlets that Williams was shot at a gas station in the community of Hayneville, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Montgomery. Details remained sketchy as law enforcement agents converged on the community. Video from WSFA-TV showed a heavy law enforcement presence late Saturday outside a QV gas station.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Cpl. Jess Thornton told reporters the State Bureau of Investigation was en route to the scene.
The tall sheriff was known as Big John. Ivey paid tribute to him online, writing that in his years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps and his many years working in law enforcement, he dedicated his life to keeping other people safe.
During his decadeslong career with the sheriffs office, Williams notably in 2000 was the arresting officer of Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, a 1960s black militant who was known as H. Rap Brown before converting to Islam. Al-Amin was wanted and later convicted in the fatal 2000 shooting of a Fulton County sheriffs deputy in Atlanta.

Very sad. I’ve seen him on LivePD.
RIP Big John. I hope his murderer assumes room temperature as soon as possible.
RIP.
The respect for or the loss of respect for the police is what happens when the left controls the narrative. A good man killed for doing his job Id bet by an asshole. I hope his family can find peace and I have a place in a prayer for him and his family. RIP
Yes, this is very sad, and I surely hope they find and prosecute fully the perp who committed this vile act on a respected lawman.
However, I find it curious why the media did not do their obligatory “teen” description of the perp. In the article it described the suspect as an “18-year-old white man”. So, just more confirmation that “teen”, from now on simply means “black”. Pathetic media scum.
God bless and keep you Officer Williams. Where the f are “Black Lives Matter’’?
What a man! This is really sad. Hope they find perp quickly.
Glad they found suspect quickly!
Hoe-Le CRAP on a cracker.
punkscumbagpos may he burn in H££ eternally.
Looks like Alabama might want to Open up one of those Express Lanes.

You sick ass.
Our Constitution specifically prohibits torture, and you are gleeful

5 feet 9 and 137 lbs. a shrimp, and on foot. Somebody dropped him off or left him after the alleged deed?
In predominantly black demographic Lowndes County SW of Montgomery, AL the capital. And, just where is Black Lives Matter? No where- because black police officers do not matter. This was a distinguished officer who caught Black Panther H.Rap Brown.
To make it more awful the suspect is thought to be the son of another police officer.
Suspect has previous arrests ...for posession of brass knuckles and for alcohol.
He is the son of another LEO and he was driving a stolen vehicle that he abandoned at the QT station.
Explain yourself. Where, in this thread, did I sanction ‘torture’?
