Local train crossings blocked, all trains stopped nation-wide (Lansing, MI)

LANSING, MI (WILX) -- Capital Area Ingham County Alerts sent out a notification that "all trains nation-wide have been stopped for an undetermined amount of time."

The alert said specific crossings that are blocked in our area are Hagadorn/Service in East Lansing and Marsh/Haslett in Meridian Township.

News 10 reached out to East Lansing Police Chief Steve Gonzalez regarding the issue.

"I don't know if it's a system failure or what, but it seems pretty large-scale," Gonzalez said.

He said he is not aware of any injuries or accidents that would case a train to stop here locally.

Marc Magliari, an Amtrak spokesman, said the delay is caused by Canadian National, owner of the railroad.

“They’re having a service disruption and we do not anticipate it will affect our operations this evening,” Magliari said.

Magliari declined to say what the service disruption is and why Amtrak is convinced its next train scheduled to pass through mid-Michigan at 8 p.m. won’t be delayed.

“I’ve been briefed by CN,” Magliari said. “They can speak to you about the disruption of service.”

News 10’s attempts to reach CN officials early Thursday afternoon weren’t successful.

If true, somewhat reminiscent of 9-11

So, when they say “all trains”, do they mean all Amtrak trains? How many trains are under the control of Amtrak? Perhaps all passenger trains are Amtrak?

uhh….all trains nationwide would have to travel pretty far out of their way to pass through Lansing, Michigan.

Most run straight through the IL-IN-OH corridor on their way between New York and the West Coast.

[Need to commandeer the rails to transport the UFO.]

Although I believe all UFO's are some sort of advanced military craft (or psyops) that excellent statement could put you in with us. We have jackets. Well, not yet. But maybe someday.

In this case, it’s a just a systems failure at the Canadian National’s dispatching center in Montreal.

It looks like it's just Amtrak trains (and any freights) in the South Central Michigan area having issues.

Found this Amtrak train tracker, and the Michigan trains are an hour and a half late, and travelling at under 15 mph.

I don't know how normal that is, but I think someone at the Ingham County Alerts meant to say "county wide" but someone interpreted it as "country wide."

It’s an issue with tracks owned by the Canadian National. They have a significant presence in the US due to acquisitions made over the years.
