Nothing sleek about that (not so much) flying Fire Hydrant.
It’s probably just me but if look close enough you can make out the word “ACME” on the rocket.
Musk’s innovative cylindrical coffin design.
I said it here a couple of months ago that that overgrown steel beer vat with it’s 1950’s sci-fi movie design was going to get people killed. Luckily for Musk, it was only a ground test. I’m no rocket scientist (although I’ve known a few), but I’m willing to bet that the engineering needed to actually get Marvin the Martian’s rocketship into space would kill any ROI SpaceX thought they were going to see. It was a boondoggle with a poor track record. Elon’s Spruce Goose.
Thanks for the pix posting
The prototype was undergoing a maximum pressure test, but the pumps and sensors were at fault and pressurized the tanks too much.
Check those rivet gaskets and welds!( LOL)
Time to grow rockets instead of assembling them.
Just like being partially pregnant?
Musk has done some amazing stuff. It will be interesting to see how this rocket does.
At this point in time though, it looks like a “Red Green” skit.
“So - the lodge is low on funds. But Harvey read in the papers of this reward to launch a rocket. Bill down at the feed lot said he’s got a leaky silo he’ll donate. Bob the welder had some sheet metal from a barn that went down in the last storm. Another 20 rolls of duct tape and we’ll be on Mars!”
It was a cryonic pressure test, not launch. Something failed a the top cap blew off. Moving on from the Mk. 1 (the failure) to the Mk. 3 versions, but Mk. 2 is being built
Man on the moon and Mars—any day now...any day now...
Separating fools from their money.
Why do I feel we have regressed back to the 1950s Russian space program? All the rocket designers from the golden age of NASA are dead. Didnt they leave any technical knowledge on paper?
*ping*
My favorite YT channel for rocket stuff is SpaceXcentric (formerly the oddly-named Cloudlicker) — he gets to the story and to the point, and doesn’t attempt to be a morning DJ or be pedantic. My other fave is Scott Manley, and I think the two have actually collaborated at least once, so, bonus.
