The Navy during the days of John Paul Jones put riflemen in the mast rigging to pick off men on ships they were fighting. It progressed from there. First In Last Out has a lot of meaning. 1st Marines hit Guadalcanal first. They’d already been on Makin Island. I was greeted coming off liberty by a marine during my time in a sub out of Rota Spain to cross the tender to my boat. Happy Birthday Marines! Semper Fi.

Especially since I was thinking about what our world would be like if they had never been.
Can someone explain to this simpleton why we even have the SEALs when we already have the Marines? Serious question.

Let’s end it, once and for all.
The Marines are combat soldiers for beach assaults and other actions,some Marines transfer and are trained as Seals. The Seal training is a wider range of training including medical, parachute training, covert special ops, and others. Marines kill people and break things. Seals are more the special ops types. They do operate together sometimes as well as with other US forces.
