A pair of Great Danes killed an Ohio woman who kept the rescued animals over her husbands objections, authorities said.
Mary Matthews, 49, was found dead Friday in her Waynesville home by her husband, Dale Mark Matthews, some two years after she rescued the aggressive dogs
...
I never wanted Great Danes but she wanted to rescue them, Matthews told the newspaper. She loved animals so I let her get them. I probably should have put my foot down and said no, obviously.
Matthews said he was bitten by one of the massive dogs last month, leading him to worry that someone else could be attacked one day.

The Danes were patsies...Pitts and Rotts set them up.
FWIW, when presented with this tenaciously stupid myth, Dobe owners generally just point and laugh,
I can’t even believe I have to dignify this ludicrous superstition with an answer.

Yeah, and they always turn on their masters.

I have this terrible headache, Wardaddy.
I suspect my brain has finally grown too large for my skull.
Think I’ll go bite somebody.
My Rottweiler caped a Great Dane that attacked him when the Dane was off lead .....upper broadway nyack New York near Ellen Burstyn and Harry Nilsson digs ..1986
I let his lead go he had a right to defend himself
It was over in less than a minute...I grabbed his collar and pulled him off and he took the Danes face with him
It was awful I felt so sorry for the dogs owner....my Jamaican girlfriend (red stripe heiress) sobbed
Owner called the cops and the cop shot the Great Dane per owners request in the grass
Captain showed up who knew me and my dogs and said Upper Nyack had lease laws and we were in the clear
Still I aint gonna lie I felt bad..
Beckett the first my male uncut Rott of course showed no remorse.....Ive had two Rotts named Beckett ones on my homepage ....murdered by a car two years ago....only time my adult life I cried openly
Animal kingdom is brutal and winner take all
That dog saved her life from a black serial rapist suspected murderer in Gainesville FL two years later after wed parted company and I let her keep the dogs since I was living worldwide then
He almost killed the intruder whod followed her from her job at UFG ...he targeted blondes ...he tried to come in the window while she was in shower...big mistake
The male got him down and got his face and the female Cara...tore his legs and thigh open
Shibumi RIP
“Track dogs”?
WTF?
Did you *somehow* confuse them with Greyhounds??
*No one* runs Danes on the track.
/suddenly, it’s all clear to me, now
Poor dog, victim of an idiot owner.
Once in a while a “youth” will get his Pibble too close, thinking it’s a done deal.
I always warn them, the Pibble will come from under for a grab hold but the Dobe will come from above with a neck snap killing bite.
Go home little kid and take your puppy with you.
Then again, since Dobes are infamous Track Dogs with tiny skulls and ginormous brains, it’s to be expected, I reckon.
/finally, some worthy tragicomedy tonight
Chris, we gotta get them Shepherds out on the tracks!
Who knows?
They may be able to outrun Danes.

I am loving this!
Tally ho!
One of our animal hospital clients was a woman who rescued cats. In fact, she had so many that she had two houses, one for her and her husband and one for the cats. Her husband was not happy. One time she came in with a broken arm and was vague about what had happened. She was a nurse so she treated herself. I think her husband divorced her soon after.
I’ve learned to never underestimate how desperate people can get when it comes to obssessive disorders on a grand scale.
BINGO !!! They were abused. The problem was the Dogs probably stood taller than Her and out weighed Her. With 2 of them She never had a chance if/when something triggered the situation.
The oldest Daughter has a Great Dane German Shepherd mix that was raised from a Pup and its a Big Baby. Shes big but not the size of a full blood Great Dane. And skinny too.
When We rescued Molly (The Black one on My FRHomepage) Our Cane Corso Italian Mastiff weighed 44 pounds, Her Feet and Nails were cracked/bleeding/worn down to the Quick. Her Face was covered in bite and scratch marks from when She was living in the hood in Charlotte and the bros were Training Her to Fight because they thought She was a Big Pit Bull !!!
Im 61 and 300# if I had to fight Molly (130#) I might come out alive but shredded. For Me to Win I would have to break Her neck or maybe be able to strangle Her but I would still be messed up when it was over.
We got Her healed and fattened back up. Her Feet and Nails healed. It took about a year for Her to let Me pet Her. She was still scared of Men and loud voices. Now She knows that Im a good Good Guy. And WOW ! does She HATE the bros !!! Even if Shes in the House and sees a Black Person walking on the street She goes bonkers at the window. We dont worry about anybody breaking in while We are Home or Gone, She and Savannah are on duty. And as the Pics show They are both spoiled rotten with Beds/Milkbones/Rawhides/Pig ears/never ending food bowl and most table scraps.
Molly is Savannahs ears because She was Born Deaf. All Her other senses work overtime. She either sleeps next to Us in the bed or touching Molly do She knows what is going on.
If there is reincarnation I hope I come back as a Dog with Owners like Us.
I am a cat person as well, but I will say this: it is not uncommon for dogs to dislike people, but a good tempered dog that doesn’t like someone says something to me.
Also, a dog that is cool towards people and warms to a person says something as well...:)
Often when the guy let the dog out in the back yard, the dog would easily jump the side gate then jump on to the roof of his car and lay there watching the neighborhood......LOL!
*boop!*
Thanks for your replies. I was not thinking it through.
As you have said, who knows how they were treated before? I can just picture some lowlife trying to “train” them for dogfighting.
Prayers for that woman’s family.
We currently have a shelter cat whom I suspect was abused. Very skittish. The husband got him in May and is still not allowed to pick him up! I keep telling the cat, “You don’t know what you’re missing”. DH is a major cat spoiler.
Sad, RIP.
You are so right.
