Anyone want to talk about the Pinellas Trail in Florida? How about the Suncoast Trail, also in FL? Any takers?

Anyone want to talk about the Pinellas Trail in Florida?

I’m headed out on it shortly, wonderful resource that I have enjoyed for thousands of miles. If you see a Catrike recumbent, it might be me on a daily ride. Love this first cool front of the season!

Traveling between the two biggest cities in the Mid-Atlantic by car or bus takes about two hours, if traffic is kind. Train can get you there in an hour and a half, or less if you pony up for express. Airplanes cut the transit time to one hour, not counting any security snarl.

If you’re not in a rush, you can skip all that hassle and spend a leisurely two days on the trip — via bicycle.

The first NYC-to-Philly bike ride is going down this spring, and you can sign up now to participate.

This is disappointing.

My Trek XCaliber7 is going to the shop for a tuneup, and to replace a tire with a nail in it. (Thanks, Home Depot!)

It's a 29er, pretty big bike. One time I was in a parking lot, and there was one of those little 'Smart' cars there.

Just for fun, I lined up the back of the bike with the back of the car, and the car was only about 2 1/2 feet longer. 8~)

Sweet bike! I have a Trek hybrid and a Specialized MTB. I’m hoping to be able to ride again someday. The physical therapist said not to give up on riding again but don’t count on it either. :-( If I can’t ride in another year I’ll sell both of mine because it hurts to look at them and not be able to ride.

Happy trails!

Please add me to your ping list. Long time bike commuter and occasional gravel road tourer here.

Wife and I like to get out on the Weiser River trail as often as possible, and sometimes make the trek to the CDA area for the trails up there.

My advice. Mountain bike. Not road bike

More comfortable. Big tires. Shocks. Great brakes. Gears

And you don’t have to be with CARS AND TRUCKS !

every single road biker I’ve ever met has horror stories of near death

( now of course I have my own but I’m the grassy hills bandit and it comes with the territory ! )

Cheers. ! Mr bandit

That sucks! The Amgen Tour was one of the few pro continental events in this country. It pulled some pretty big names -- Sagan, Cavendish (even though he's washed up), Kittel, Quintana, et. al..

Sadly, I think road cycling is a dying sport. Although the Tour this year was incredible, the Vuelta was actually kind of dull.

The sport needs another exciting rider. Love him or hate him, Lance Armstrong drew a lot of interest during his heyday. We need someone like that again, only clean.

Sorry to hear all that. I know I've seen you in many bike threads.

The bike above is the one I crashed and broke my leg. Didn't get back on it for exactly 6 months.

I fell last November at the dog park and tore the tendons in my ankle and foot when I landed on it. They weren’t ruptured but slightly torn. I went to the doctor and he put me in a walking boot whenever I had to walk outside. He did x-rays and an MRI and said it would heal fine. It didn’t. He wanted to start putting steroid shots in the tendons and I said no. Instead I’m seeing a Physical Therapist in Knoxville and he has me on exercises and massage to strengthen and stretch the tendons back out where they are supposed to be. I had a bad bout of tendonitis in the peroneal tendons and that can be hard to heal and stay healed. That was when I gave up on the doctor and started going to the PT on my own. He only wants me to do his exercises for the foot/ankle and slowly build up walking distance. I also had tendonitis in the tendon of the big toe with cysts. It hasn’t been a good year and he said it could take another year but he can fix it. It’s already a lot better after 3 months with him that it was after 9 months fooling with the doctor.

He said if I heal properly this time I might be able to ride again. Cycling is low impact but it can irritate those tendons in the feet so it’s iffy right now.
