General Motors has joined Fiat Chrysler and Toyota in saying on Monday that they are siding with the Trump administration in taking on California over fuel economy standards, according to the New York Times.
The argument presented by the automakers siding with Trump is that the federal government and not California has the authority in the matter, according to The Times. Those automakers are represented by the group the Association of Global Automakers.
General Motors and Fiat Chrysler referred queries to Global Automakers. Toyota did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the Times.

They ought to make one model for California and another for the rest of the country. The California model would be $10,000 more but thats the way it goes.
Winning.
The car makers were bowing to the California commies before Trumped stepped in.

i believe they already do that. I had a late 90’s F-250 and it had California emissions on it I believe. I seem to recall I had to mention that when I bought parts for it.
Ping.
There was a time, not that long ago, Dodge could not sell diesel pickups in California because they did not meet the emission standards.
Ping.
Ive been wondering, with the power being shut off in CA, how are all those electric cars doing?
Interstate commerce is regulated by the federal government.
Any vehicle NOT built with the California standard, would be in violation of that standard.
All vehicles, regardless of the standard used to build them, would be allowed into all the states.
Would California forbid entry into the state if the vehicle did not meet its emissions and fuel standards? Would California insist that people moving into the state trade their vehicles for vehicles that meet the state standards? Would Californians be forbidden from purchasing vehicles from other states that did not meet California standards.
Is California still in the United States? If so, nationwide standards that affect interstate commerce, would have to follow the federal regulations or standards.
They can put a little windmill on top of the car and it will recharge while driving.
LOL As a Californian, I can’t stop laughing as Nutcase Numbskull Newsom already has himself in a mess with fires up and down the state, high gas taxes, homeless camps in every significant city, etc. It could not happen to a more corrupt jerk who parades himself around the state like he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can’t wait to sign the recall Newsom petition being circulated. How about one for his corrupt cohort, AG Becerra?
Becerra is A Reconquista LA Raza Mexican who favors illegals far more than Americans. Fact.
I would imagine if you are out of juice and need to get out of the way of the fire you might think a bit differently about the wisdom of electric cars if you live in California
Ford is still bowing to the Cal commies. They're siding with California.
“I would imagine if you are out of juice and need to get out of the way of the fire you might think a bit differently about the wisdom of electric cars if you live in California”
Not really - you’re still ‘sending a message’ by owning an electric car...even if you get incinerated.
Not well even if thy have solar if they are directly connected to the grid without a cutoff then their solar shuts down. Short of that if the grid is down you have no way of charging your car as the voltage required to do so is hard to get with a generator unless it has the higher capacity that can run much of your house not just power tools.
Ford is? I might have to tell my friend (who owns 3 Ford dealerships) that I might have to look at another truck - a Ram. I’ve been a Ford man since my family mostly had Fords.
As a Californian that has been the rule for years, California Emissions required to be met by cars sold in the state new and out of state ones had to pass the same emissions standard to be registered.
Additionally the Gasoline blend for sale in Cali costs much more than that which is refined for the other 49 states, and that explains much of the typically $1.00 more per gallon price at the pump for consumers.
And how is the air going to be cleaner when all those trees that scrub the air have just burned down. On the bright side, there will be plenty of charcoal for filters.
During the yearly safety check in Texas, the visual engine inspection always came back with the “where's the air pump” question. I had an OEM sticker under the hood that said ‘California Emissions Equipped’ and the tech said that's good enough for me and passed the truck.
