Ok here goes... Where/When did California get SO Screwed Up, I mean what was the pivotal Event/Year?
When Abbie Hoffman said “don’t trust anyone over 30” and then turned 30... and it became “Trust in government”
That’s too difficult a question.... how about, when was California not on a negative slope? I think you have to go back to the 40s....
It is a weird thing.
Because, California topped everything. Education stats, health stats...
Guess, liberalism hit you like a freight train, just a bit before the rest of us.
It should have been a warning like Sodoma, but like back then.
We didn’t listen.
“As one of Hemingway’s characters says in The Sun Also Rises:
How did you go bankrupt?”
Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.
You have the perfect answer.
That is exactly how it happened.
Gradually initially, so nobody noticed, then when it happened quickly, it was too late to stop it.
Not sure.
A major hot rod equipment company moved from CA to Tennessee last year-beginning of this year. Their Facebook page said it was based upon insane regulations, taxes, and cost of shipping their product out east related to CA high diesel prices.
The owner posted they was going to save in the 100’s of thousands per month in cost.
I think they had 120+ employees.
Downtown San Francisco already was starting to have a problem with phony “homeless veterans” in the Eighties and early Nineties, hanging out around Union Square and the cable car terminus and hassling tourists for money. It’s a thousand times worse now, the cancer spread out across the city.
It was when New York was admitted to the Union ...
1960’s
All those radical lefty students in Berzerkly and other UC colleges got their degrees and started becoming teachers and professors that warped the next generation.
They then moved into state government as well
I think you are on to something.
Cali became utopia not only to the nation, but to the world.
And, utopias this side of Eden do not tend to last very long.
Yep
Close. I’d say the year before. In 1849, the California Gold Rush occurred (49ers). People wanting something for nothing, or at least that they could dig out of the ground without having to work too long, flocked there. Descendents of easy money seekers made California what it is today. Add in the same sort of thinking when Hollywood came of age and the hippies came to prominence, and there you have it.
This is compared to a family oriented, operations (farming) minded midwest and a mercantile East Coast. Nowhere is perfect, but the population of California certainly came from somewhere close to the historical events that I mentioned.
That some random bodybuilder with questionable English an intellectual skills could get elected, should tell you that the rot is quite a bit older than that.
You are right. It was gradual. Most of the Californians who voted for Reagan gradually died and were replaced by illegal immigrants who vote.
It was literally a trope.
In all movies...
Free and cool California versus all the inbred idiot hicks in flyover country.
All the “Free and cool” people went there.
How did he get schnookered into that?
Now it is clear, humblegunner.
It must have been us :)
and pissant.
A long decline from 1967 and the Summer of Love.
But I think the immigration change in the 80s and the LA riots in the early 90s really accelerated the bad stuff.
Spot on!
September 9, 1850
It was the first (or early) instance of The Deal:
First you sign amnesty, then together WE will secure the border.
