We are two-thirds along the way to a new American Civil warat least, thats what almost 70 percent of voters questioned by Georgetown Universitys Institute of Politics and Public Service poll believe.
When asked to express on a scale from 0 to 100, how far we are on our way to the brink of a civil war, the mean response was 67.23.
This conclusion features in the second Civility Poll by GU Politics this year released on Wednesday. The Battleground Civility Poll is the second component of the bipartisan Battleground Poll.
The survey found a generally held belief in over 70 percent of those polled from all across the electorial spectrum, including Democrats, non-partisans, Republicans, Hispanics, blacks, rural voters, urban voters, young and old that the divisions in class, race, and political creed are becoming more significant.
A generally found tenure is that the overall civility in politics is on a free fall in recent times (88% agree, including 71% strongly agree), and the discrepancy between Democrats and Republicans seems to be beyond reconciliation.

Fortunately the colonizers of North Mexico are only about 10%.
The Islamists are less than that.
If it weren’t for the 1/3 of Americans who have been propagandized against their own country we could deal with those threats.
I think all this civil war talk is generally 24 hour news cycle/social media driven. I’m not convinced civil wars are even possible when so much of the population is generally so comfortable and entertained. The poorest people are the most likely to be obese and are the most entertained poor people ever. They are also generally unused to hard physical labor outdoors in all weather. Has there ever been a civil war with conditions like these? Granted these conditions are very new, so I guess one argument would be ‘there’s a first time for everything.’
A solid, real world warning sign might be if eligible voter turnout gets a 15-20% bump in 2020. That would put it around 75-80% probably. I doubt it happens. The people who choose not to vote have outnumbered the turnout for either political party for 100+ years. Voting is a pretty low bar for measuring how much folks really care in my thinking.
Freegards
The author ponders as to why this is the case. The elephant in the room that everyone ignores, is the fact that for 8 years we had a usurper doing his best to fan the flames of division while continuing the suicidal policy of unfettered illegal immigration, which included The deliberate importation of people who Hate America and the values by which it was formed. A sure recipe for disaster, deliberate or otherwise.
Civil War in the 21st century will similarly come to a peaceful end, thanks to the heroic leadership of President Donald Trump and his faith in the USA and the wealth-producing free market.
When Trump's brilliant intellect, indomitable spirit, unfailing puissance, and faith in God have finally exposed the TRUTH about the corruption of US government and America's most venerable institutions, e.g. the FBI, the CIA, et al., and the decadence of American society, he will have ushered in a new age of ascendency in America.
The grateful nation will realize that yet again America produced the hero she needed, and when she was under the greatest threat in her history, viz. the threat of suicidal destruction because of the decadence of Western Civilization and its concomitant internal moral rot and decay, the destroyer of civilizations.
President Trump and his supporters believe that the decadence that is destroying Western Civilization has not yet reached the point of no return in America, that America can be pulled back from the brink of destruction and sent soaring into a new age of ascendency.
Donald Trump has always prevailed in the end.
He will again in this, the greatest struggle of his life.
"Tomorrow, just you wait and see."
if?
So...
The Democrats think we're going to vote for gun confiscation. Right.
But know this:
The left are increasingly using force to suppress free speech.
They are imposing "Red Flag" laws as a presence for suppressing gun ownership.
They are stealing political control using unconstitutional means.
At some point Americans will fight back.
Unless WE start removing the Bush League Republicans who are still hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico, President Trump will be but a speed bump on that road.
I think that we are 15/16ths, or 31/32’s, 63/64ths. One spark, intentional or accidental will light the fuse. Which, once lit, can’t be put out. If history is any indication, it will be accidental, but once the genie is out of the bottle, it can’t be put back in. There are no cool heads left on the Left side. They have went the way of the DoDo bird. And the cool heads on the Right are vanishing quickly. Once only the hot heads remain on both sides.........
I agree. The National Debt is going to cause America to collapse like the Soviet Union long before a civil war.
That sounds like a big deal, but truthfully it’s a completely meaningless phrase.
Better that with him in the oval office instead of any of the Bolsheviks.
Agreed. Id say when though. The impeachment isnt going to work. Russian collusion didnt work. What would be next? Assassination or CWII (or both). The next year is going to be the wildest in our lifetimes.
You're going to tell me that armed gangs are going to roam the streets of America gunning down those that don't agree with you?
The war will not be the government against a pack of armed civilians. It will begin as an ideological battle between the states and the Federal government with the states viewing the action of the Feds as unconstitutional.
The spark that ignites the next civil war will be when the Federal Govt. sends armed force into a state to enforce a Federal edict and the Governor of the state uses the National Guard to resist it. If the situation is not defused, it will escalate into the state blockading the military bases within their border. The loyalty of the leadership and servicemen on the base will be tested. If that breaks toward the "cause" vs. the Federal Govt. The state will then have a military force capable of resisting Federal power. If states like Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi form a coalition, they will have military power, economic strength, a strangle hold on the energy supply, and control of major ports including Houston, Mobile and the Mississippi River.
This scenario may seem extreme, but it is totally possible. It would not develop overnight. The pressure would build almost imperceptibly, like boiling a frog. The reality of the current situation is the frog is already sweating.
The thing is: most people just want to go along with their lives, go to work, come home, raise their family. I enjoy my job and don’t really want it messed with. You might find some groups here and there but the government is a lot bigger, more powerful (military stuff) and even states with their national guard. Armed insurrection? I don’t think so.
Wouldn’t the government nationalize the guard? Put it under their control?
IMHO, we’re already there.
We’re currently in a ‘cold’ civil war.
A ‘hot’ civil war is being prevented by Bread (welfare) and Circuses (entertainment - cable, internet, etc.).
If gun confiscation starts, or cable goes out, or the EBTs stop refilling, it’s on.
Ill wager the people reflected in this poll/survey have very limited knowledge about our actual Civil War; its causes, costs, including human costs and the fact that it was also called the war between the states. Therefore, they casually toss around the term Another Civil War like its a common occurrence.
The dumbing down of Americans in full view.
