Gates police have charged a Chili man with attempted murder in a road rage incident that turned into a fight, leaving a Gates man with serious stab wounds to the neck and leg.
Officers said Levar Merritt, 42, is charged with second-degree attempted murder, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree assault.
He was arraigned and sent to the Monroe County Jail on $45,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond.
Police said the alleged incident ended in the parking lot of the Lyell Avenue Wegmans, but started on the road between him and the 39-year-old victim.
"One gentleman pulled out a box cutter and stabbed the other motorist multiple times," said Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode.
Merritt surrendered to police already at the store.
Police say the victim is in guarded condition at an area hospital.
"By all means, do not get out and confront the individual, you don't know if they're armed as we saw yesterday, or what they're capable of doing," VanBrederode said.
This isnt the first time Merritt has been involved in a confrontation like this. Gates police said this road rage incident is nearly a repeat of a similar one on June 20 at the Gates Wegmans.

BTW, the op doesn’t have to do anything with the title, they can just identify the state or country in which the story took place in their comment posted with the OP.
The “i” is pronounced as a diphthong, sounds like the word “eye”
Because in the 1964 race riots, my (all-white) volunteer fire Company was involved in filing in for city fire companies. We were warned by the Rochester dispatchers, "When you come in, bring every hydrant wrench you've got. You are going to need them to protect you lines from being sliced."
Have you ever seen a hydrant wrench? Its a 2-foot stainless steel pipe topped by s 2 or 3 pound brass five-sided socket.
The all-white surrounding communities were watching the riots very closely, with horror. That's why.
I shop at the one where north Wilmington residents currently shop.
Just over the line on Rt.202(Concord Pike) & Baltimore Pike(Rt.1)
What city/town/state did this occur in? Article doesn’t say.
Rochester, NY area.
Thanks.....
I have seen the lasting effects on both these communities. And apparently the Black Culture simply does not want to recognize how far back these events have set the integration of surrounding areas. This is probably also why LA and Chicago are still ghettoized.
I wonder what the background of the Gates-Chili stabbing consists of. It was reported by the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle (also a Gannett outlet like the News Journal).

The antagonist stabber was of high-melanin appearance, sadly. More resistance to integration expected, I suppose. From his Chili neighbors, to be exact.
Oh, wow! I was not aware of that! Do they have Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans? White frankfurters? Sahlen’s hot dogs? Salt Rising bread?
Where’s the chili recipe?
Was the “Chili man” a cook at Chili’s, or was he a customer?
It’s pronounced Ch(eye)-L(eye). Like your eyes that you see with.
Lyell Avenue is the ghetto expressway. Three more years until I retire. Then Mayor Lovely and that commie rat King Andrew can kiss my *** goodbye.
LOL, no clue.
I just go there for the 8 packs of marinated chicken, and salmon topped with crab meat.
I eat mostly “Paleo”.
I lived there in Chili 1963-1966. Also in North Chili when my Dad was the Methodist minister there in 1942-1946. North Chili was the home of Chesbro Seminary/Roberts Wesleyan College.
I lived in Honeoye Falls, NY, abt 7 miles southeast of Rochester, for t years, 1948-54. So I know how to pronounce the town name. This is not a criticism nor a reproof, just an observation.
Your description of how to pronounce this is just as good as mine. It is difficult to exactly convey with only the alphabet to guide one.
Oooooo! mmmmm.
The items I mentioned are pretty Western-New-Yorky. I bring them back when I come home from visiting relatives. Not found here at all, anywhere.
To be honest, I have never heard of any of them. :)
Do you do their clipless coupons?
They regularly have ones for the 8 pack of marinated chicken breast.
It’s worth it.
No, I’ll have to check it out, thanks.
