Over at Vox today, Roge Karma examines the book The Meritocracy Trap, which posits that meritocracy the idea that social and economic rewards should track talent, effort, and achievement produces radical inequality, stifles social mobility, and makes everyone including the apparent winners miserable.

How long before AI instructors replace teachers and professors? The sooner the better.
Who wants a meritocracy when we can be a mediocrity?
Socialism does not work.
Human beings can never live within a society structured like a colony of ants or bees.
We are human beings who thrive on freedom from tyranny of any nanny welfare state, predefined to be “Utopia.”
We pursue happiness. We do not create totalitarian society where everyone is guaranteed a modicum of “survival.”
Private wealth would be distributed among totalitarian government bureaucrats, rather then enuring to the benefit of the very people who worked for it.
No thanks Brett T . Your logic is worthy of the lowest invertebrate that refuses to haul itself upwards on the evolutionary scale of existence.
The left has been working every angle for over a century to do just that.
Oh! So now diversity is a bad thing!
When you separate reward from work, you get less work.
Good then then execs will do the same work as secretaries and everyone will get paid the same there now, I assume?
Sure, get rid of the meritocracy. Allow incompetent people to run organizations and build things. Because, it’s all about their feelings y’know. Not about actual safety or making things work.
I wonder how “happy and fulfilled” the general public will feel when infrastructure (like pedestrian bridges) starts collapsing, planes fall out of the sky and even the power to their homes won’t be assured? Oh, wait.....all of those things ARE happening.
Old Soviet Union joke; "We pretend to work and the bosses pretend to pay us!" Just remember, Bernie and his cohorts all know that socialism works, it just hasn't been properly implemented ANYWHERE yet! So voting for them is volunteering to be experimental animals for their best guesses!
I watched the movie with Sean Astin.

I see no reason why Home Schooling and Charter Schools can’t begin the transition today.
Why can’t we run K-12 with the hundred best teachers in America?
Mix in some well paid personal tutors, and a few drill sergeants for rule enforcement, and you have a completely functional school with just 10% of the previous staff!
0bonga! 0bonga! 0bonga!
Vonnegut was a prophet. Crazy and abusive but nevertheless.
The brain snatchers always moan about inequality because they fail to admit an obvious truth. Talent is NOT evenly distributed, not by race, not by sex, not by culture. In every group there are those who are smarter, driven to work harder, longer and this results in success. Success results in more income. Its not hard to understand unless you are an idiot, or a leftist trying to unravel a society.
We can have brain surgeons standing on the street flipping the stop/slow signs for road construction and we can have burger flippers doing security software updates for Windows 10 - Wait...Isn’t that what happens now.
Vox saw Idiocracy and thought it was the greatest thing since Tang. However, they were still worried about all those intellects shown in the movie.
