crash death after Donald Trump dropped the "bombshell" that she was in the room next door at the White House.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn felt "a little ambushed" by the offer made by the US president.

Anne Sacoolas, 42, returned to the United States days after the crash which killed 19-year-old Harry.

Harry's parents said they wanted to meet Mrs Sacoolas in the UK.

Mr Dunn said a White House official told them she would not be returning to the UK, but Mr Trump said he would "try to push this from a different angle".

I was reading it was a hit and run. She fled England after the accident.

When I first arrive in Europe you were not allow to drive until you been through the driver safety course. Mrs Scoolas have only been in country three weeks. I wonder if she got the drivers training.

If true, still researching:
The hit and run part and leaving England to avoid prosecution is the bad part.

“She has diplomatic immunity.
If we bend the law for this case, should we bend it for other cases also?”

Yes. Change the rules.
This could be used to set a precedent for diplomats and their families. We could require reciprocity with the UK, so they must follow the same regulations regarding their diplomats here.
Trump could propose that and put the ball in the UK’s court. If they agree fine, let the proceedings for punishment begin. If they don’t agree, then they can take blame for punishment not being meted out.

If what they really wanted was an answer to that, they would have met with her when she was right there in the next room.
They refused. Nothing more to be said.

So what is the penalty in this country for reckless driving resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident?

I think they're looking for a little more than a half-hearted apology.

“Police have said CCTV of the crash in which the teenager died shows a Volvo travelling on the wrong side of the road.”

EVERYONE in England drives on the wrong side of the road! She was on the “right” side.

No, they DO NOT! They drive on the left side of the road. I drove in England for 3 years without a problem about which side of the road to drive on.

I don’t have much time to be at the computer today, but just wanted to post that I don’t blame her one bit for not wanting to be placed in that vulnerable position, to be at the hands of the U.K. government authority, especially after observing how they treat their lowly subjects.

IMO, the U.K.’s government is rogue. Look at how they treated Tommy Robinson during his previous outrageous jailing. Look how they are holding Julian Assange beyond his sentence. Julian’s sentence has been fulfilled, and they openly admit to holding him beyond the end of his sentence, “for his own protection”. Don’t get me started on their treatment of him. IMO, they are without the rule of law.

No way would I voluntarily return there, if I were that woman.

How would they even know what kind of an apology they would have gotten if they refused to even meet with her. You are right, though, I think they are indeed after something more.

I’d be pretty surprised if they didn’t have signs like that on base.

“Should we paint arrows on our streets as a good will gesture to UK diplomats too stupid to know the local rules of the road?”

First, we don’t have all the details.

Second, Having driven where you have to drive on the WRONG side of the road, I can tell you it is VERY unnerving! I told my wife to be alert and remind me after every stop, that I had to be on the OTHER side of the road.

Meeting oncoming cars cresting hills or rounding curves was especially scary because my mind saw them as being on the wrong side of the road about to hit me “head on”. Of course they didn’t because I also was on the wrong side of the road, but my mind had forgotten that for a second.

I can understand their point of view. Trump admitted he would do the same in their position. It was a bit off to try and present them with a fair accompli by having the suspect next door. If she was genuinely sorry though, she would return to face the music. If she doesn’t, it proves that she only cares about saving her own ass and her apology is hollow. Worst case scenario is she gets six month and serves half. It isn’t like she would be burned to death in public.

Arrange is being kept in custody because there are extradition proceedings against him, from the US, and he skipped bail the last time he was released.

It wouldn’t be reckless because she wasn’t deliberately driving dangerously in drugs or flooring the pedal like a NASCAR driver. She would be charged with the lesser offence of causing death by careless driving, which carries a maximum sentence of six months.

Why is this a big deal (other than DJT). It is just an unfortunate event that has no meaning beyond a private tragedy. Some years ago a US actor or rock musician did the same thing in Ulster. The coverage was back on page A-16.

We don't know what happened. She fled the country before the police could finish their investigation or had all of the 'facts'. .gov seems to only work or speed up when it involves important actors or workers in .gov

“I was reading it was a hit and run. She fled England after the accident.”

This was not a hit and run. She stayed on the scene until the police arrived, that they interviewed her and told her she could leave. (From a major network news report.) She has responsibility for the death, but not for fleeing the scene.

Additional information from BBC article;

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-50030750
Snip....

“Anne Sacoolas’s legal representative, Amy Jeffress, said she would “continue to co-operate with the investigation”. (Snip)...

It added she had “fully co-operated with the police”.

“She spoke with authorities at the scene of the accident and met with the Northampton police at her home the following day. She will continue to co-operate with the investigation,” the statement continued.

“Anne would like to meet with Mr Dunn’s parents so that she can express her deepest sympathies and apologies for this tragic accident.

“We have been in contact with the family’s attorneys and look forward to hearing from them.”

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab wrote to Mr Dunn’s family on Saturday to explain both the British and US governments now considered Mrs Sacoolas’ immunity irrelevant.

The letter said: “We have pressed strongly for a waiver of immunity, so that justice can be done... Whilst the US government has steadfastly declined to give that waiver, that is not the end of the matter.

“We have looked at this very carefully... the UK government’s position is that immunity, and therefore any question of waiver, is no longer relevant in Mrs Sacoolas’s case, because she has returned home.

“The US have now informed us that they too consider that immunity is no longer pertinent.”

(See link for entire article.)

She left at a time when she believed immunity applied.
After seeing the British Legal system in action with Tommy Robinson and given that the local coroner would order her arrested along with the British insistance that immunity no longer applies I would not voluntarily return.

For some reason she reflexively returned to driving on the right side of the road like pretty much every nation on earth except Britain. No road rage, no sudden jihad syndrome. Tragic accident, civil liability yes, criminal liability, don’t know.

Pretty sure if your kid was killed because the driver wasn’t paying attention the the laws of the road you would be pissed off and want them held to account. You would just be like “hey, shit happens” and shrug your shoulders when they ran off so they couldn’t be held to account.

She fled the country to avoid the consequences of her actions. How sincere can a "I'm really sorry I killed your son but boy am I glad I managed to skip town" apology be?
