It would be curious to know who brought this up as a political agenda item, and how it relates to the Democratic Party of California. Has to be a lobbyist effort, with some money-motive. Sounds like someone wants to have only government-run and government-supported repeaters, with only one company providing this service. Who is the company that bought the lobbyist time?
I am pleased to report that improvements in California State Government are continuing on schedule.
Nothing to see here. Move along...
There is plenty to be concerned with regarding the Gov't, but the author shouldn't get their panties in a wad here.
1. The concern here is Public land. Guess what...the Gov't has lots of authority over public land. Nothing new or earth shattering.
2. The govt is saying, if the private people want to continue to use the public land....they can. Only now, they must pay more to use that public land.
If the people operating, and relying on, these repeaters feel they are vital and dont want to pay more in fees to continue using public land....move the repeaters to private land.
Yeah, and our governor’s named ‘Grabbin Nuisance’.
Ha...I will now get around to that Ham license.
The State of Florida is doing something similar.
Ham Radio Operators and the State DOT have a statewide network of repeaters called Sarnet. It’s usually not that active except during hurricane season when County EOC centers communicate with the State EOC in Tallahassee.
The state announced they were going to drop support of Sarnet and it created a huge uproar among Ham Operators and I think they have backed down.
Not the radio system, but common, every day Man.
Just as they are trying to ban firearms, in the same fashion they are going after amateur radio. It’s all part of their diabolical planning for the eventual SHTF... and so should we be planning.
K-—— General licensee here.
WHOA Nellie Ohr had a HAM RADIO in order to do UNTRACEABLE communications with WHO??
Apparently an inaccurate version of one individual’s dispute with CalFire over his unauthorized use of their tower space. Check out the comments here: https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/state-of-california-calls-for-ham-radio-repeaters-removal.27435/
Is it true that Ham radio transmissions are not susceptible to automated monitoring systems or digital storage algorithms? This may account for Big Brother’s lack of interest in encouraging its continued use as a medium of communication between ordinary citizens (i.e. non-Nellie Ohr types).
Well, isnt that doubleplus good.
Talked to a local club member yesterday morning over breakfast - as indicated in a forum linked later in this thread, it’s all a nothing burger brought forth by someone who does sensational youtube videos.
It affects a few sites in NorCal, all folks who set up repeaters off books and don’t like that they’ll have to pay to stay.
It’s all about taxes. Some friends of ours from California said the state government is taxing everything. The state is grasping for any revenue they can get their grubby mitts on.
Their true concern is that the communication network will be used to organize resistance to their tyranny. That is the real reason they’re doing this.
BTW, I am an Extra Class Ham Radio operator. I don’t believe the government should be restricting Ham Radio operations. Ham Radio operators have not caused problems for government. It is a self-governing organization of people who don’t allow misconduct to persist.
When the time comes that they need Ham radio support charge the hell out of them. No money, no emergency service support. Insist on being paid before providing support.
Just part of the left’s systematic destruction of California which damages a huge portion of the U.S. economy.
Not only that.
The Obama administration’s Highway funds REMOVED almost 1/3 to 1/2 of the route signs all across the country and tied it to federal dollars.
I am trying to find the link....
Remember talking about it with a military guy who said countries do that when they are invaded to confuse the enemy.
methinks we are the enemy
