There is plenty to be concerned with regarding the Gov't, but the author shouldn't get their panties in a wad here.

1. The concern here is Public land. Guess what...the Gov't has lots of authority over public land. Nothing new or earth shattering.

2. The govt is saying, if the private people want to continue to use the public land....they can. Only now, they must pay more to use that public land.

If the people operating, and relying on, these repeaters feel they are vital and dont want to pay more in fees to continue using public land....move the repeaters to private land.

Yup. FedGov owns something like 43% of the land in Kali. Perhaps the Ham operators could set up on some of that..

California has lots of hills and valleys that will block radio transmissions. Repeaters need to be up high so they can be line-of-site to other repeaters.

Many of the hilltops have been acquired by the state or county as state or regional parks, making suitable locations for repeaters hard to find.

Most of the Ham clubs have their own Portable towers on trucks. Hubby has been a Ham Extra and teaches the math part for the class for over 30 yrs. He finally broke down and bought a new one last year. Has a new pole to put up as soon as he can get some help, his shoulders are bad.

I’m guessing that the best high point repeater locations are on public land.
