Classes were canceled. Frozen foods melted. Hospitals switched to emergency generators. Blooms withered in florists coolers. Unused food was jettisoned at shuttered restaurants. Lines formed at gas stations. Cellphones faded out. Thats what happened Wednesday when the states largest utility shut off power to millions of Californians in a drastic attempt to avoid the killer wildfires that have charred hundreds of thousands of acres, caused billions of dollars in damage and spurred cries for widespread change in how electricity is delivered over the states aging grid.

VDH nails it.
No more airplanes, gasoline, electricity for California.
But they will have tons of feces on the streets and
copious bodies under the STANDARD hotel.
Hoping Jimrob moves FR from the belly if the beast. I would hate for the lights to go out here!
UC Berkeley economics professor Severin Borenstein...
Without a backup generator or a stockpile of spare phone chargers, Borensteins plan to keep his refrigerator cool and his phone running was to connect each device to a charger that would get juice from his car, which hed leave idling as long as necessary.

Climate change denier. He must be fired from Berkley immediately.
Good reminder.
Calezuela.
Blaming WILD FIRES on Climate Change is about as intellectually sound as blaming a piece of steel laying on the table (gun) for taking aim and shooting somebody.
Looks like California has it’s own civil war going on.
I wonder what this is doing to property values.
“Are not some of these wildfires the result of poor forest management practices stemming from political forces aligned with environmental organizations?”
Absolutely not!
All of them are.
Idiocracy doesn’t require dumb people, only dumb ideas. Left wing ideas are the dumbest of them all.
“Atlas Giggled”
A possible title of a book detailing real world Left wing nitwittery.
Losing a whole freezer full of meat and fish can be really expensive, in the $1,000 range. Since I don’t like shopping all the time, I occasionally go to Sam’s and/or Costco to stock up on fish, poultry, and meat, all of which I freeze. Losing the freezer load would really hurt.
“Lets try and remember we have FRiends that live in Cali. Its not funny for them.”
Only the areas most jaw-dropping beautiful are losing power.
Ironic.
Apropos, but none of them can see it now...
Does it piss off anyone else that we’ve allowed liberals to take over one of our most beautiful states?
How’d we let this happen?
PG&E when it filed for bankruptcy should have just folded and told Caliponia to go Ef it’s self!
There’s a complete disconnect between how things are produced, the nuts and bolts of civilization. People think electricity comes out of the wall, and that’s all there is to it. They hear “clean energy” snake oil salesman filling their head with bunkem and start protesting both coal plants and later on the same day protest their power bill. Advocate for both “open borders” and a $15 minimum wage.
They thought the Redwoods were being laid waste to make toothpicks, and we could no longer have paper grocery bags as God intended. Trees are a renewable crop, fast growing softwood species are used to make pulp for things like that. So instead they mandated plastic sacks, which are now Verboten because Oil. It’s tough to keep up without a program. The one thing about Leftism, you can be woke as fv$& and be totally down with the latest struggle, but if you don’t keep up, they change the rules early and often to keep people on their toes, you’ll be guilty of Wrongthink in a hurry.
Case in point. “Colored People” (I guess) was an acceptable term at one time? Well not anymore, it might get whitey fired from his job, who knows. People Of Color, now that is the current received wisdom and Approved Nomenclature. For now anyway, subject to change, and be sure to pay attention comrade, lest the arbiters of acceptable dialogue descend upon you with their wrath for an offhand comment.
I feel for the conservatives there. They didn’t vote for this.
If my sources are accurate, the socialists/communists running the state pushed this: They forced the shutdown/curtailment of many of PGE’s own generating facilities within the state and limited their maintenance budgets to practically nothing. They then made PGE buy outside power, but limited the price of it such that PGE was paying more for that outside power than they could actually recoup from their customer base. Then, they prevented PGE from clearing their power line right-of-ways for “environmental reasons”. This has been going on for years...it just didn’t happen overnight. With inadequate funds for maintenance of the lines, it was destined to be a disaster in the making...which it was when a high voltage line failed causing wildfires, which in turn, caused lawsuits. PGE finally just “tossed in the towel” and shut em down to prevent any more future lawsuits and losses. It’s surprising PGE lasted as long as it has.
Welcome to socialism/communism....It’s insanity at its very finest.
Again, I pray for the good, hard-working, conservative people there, especially those that cannot escape. Many want to fight this but are woefully outnumbered. It’s a tragedy that will become nationwide IF communism/socialism is allowed to continue to expand thru the entire country.
So what are they doing about the schools with these power outages, having the kids stay home?
I may sound really stupid but it seems to me fires are started (or at least most of them) by humans.
California deserves a People’s power company.
Then they can light up in a circular firing squad when the power goes off....
Will the last utility worker turn off the lights before they leave the “green” state?
