Fox News announced Wednesday that the former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy has been terminated by the network.
Gowdys firing comes after he reportedly agreed to help the White House fight a Democrat led impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. Fox originally hired the former representative as an on-air contributor back in January.
Trey Gowdy has been terminated and is no longer a contributor, a Fox News spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter.
The former South Carolina representative rose to fame as chairman of the House oversight committee. During his tenure, he led investigations into the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks in Libya, and supported other inquiries into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Gowdy decided to not run for reelection in the 2018 midterms after serving 8 years in the House.
Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system, Gowdy said before the 2018 midterm elections, according to Bloomberg.

As soon as Erickson gives his intro, I turn him off. I miss being able to switch over to 106.5 and listen to the Kimmer.
It would be the normal course for a network to end a contract for a just-hired administration official. But the use of “terminate” connotes firing and that is an attempt to put a negative spin on something that is routine.
Yup. Murdoch’s kids are burning the place down.
I don’t even turn them on anymore.
Using the word “terminate” makes the situation sound a lot more bitter and confrontational than was actually the case. Of course Trey Gowdy and Fox News had to end their relationship once he agreed to join the President’s legal team. That’s the proper and ethical thing to do. Mike Huckabee was a Fox News contributor prior to announcing his candidacy for President in 2016. Once he officially became a candidate, he could no longer work for Fox News. This is no big deal.
With reason. If they keep Constitutional Conservatives from being an organized force because of their narrative that people are buying into and traitors probably a majority of DC Republicans, they win. Hurry up and declare political enemies "crazy", get a President who will storm people's houses and confiscate guns, and keep the Deep State in place while they strive to get Trump than Pence impeached.
Did anyone have an idea just how resilient The Swamp is?
Big nothing burger here. Gowdy will still be on Fox a lot. He’ll just be paid by Trump instead of Fox to do it.
This whole Gowdy thing is a mistake. The man is all hat, no cattle. He would pontificate in hearings and then NOTHING would happen. This will be more of the same. Between Rudy and Gowdy, there will be a lot of fighting to get in front of cameras.
I do see your point but would disagree with you about the nature of journalistic ethics. If Fox had kept Gowdy on its payroll at the same time he was actively involved in Trump's impeachment defense, *that* would be a huge ethics violation.
To ME! :-)
Really? Fuhrman testified under oath that he'd never uttered the "n-word" then had to eat his words later on the witness stand which sealed O.J.'s "not guilty" verdict.
As far as I'm concerned, his public integrity was dirt after that. Brazile, too, lied about not forwarding the question to Hillary and accused her questioners of racism when pushed on it. Doesn't matter that she later admitted it. She's not worthy to hold a position of public trust.
I guess news consumers will have to make up their own minds about which sources are ethical. I'll take Fox any day over the others that almost exclusively showcase leftist anti-Trump political operatives. Personally I enjoy watching the Left-Right debates on Fox. But I acknowledge that Murdoch's sons are slowly nudging it further to the left. We'll see how far they go.
