REPORT: Turkish War Planes Strike Kurdish Targets in Northern Syria
GP ^ | 10/07/2019 | Cristina Laila

Posted on 10/07/2019 2:16:25 PM PDT by mplc51

Turkish war planes carried out airstrikes against Kurdish targets at the Semalka border crossing between Syria and Iraq.

Shortly before the air strike, US defense officials shut down Northern Syria airspace to Turkey in a statement to Anadolu.

“DOD spokesperson confirms the CAOC has pulled Turkey off the air tasking order and stopped the ISR feed, meaning Turkey is effectively cut out of the airspace along the border with Syria.”

“Turkish artillery bombards PKK/YPG targets in Malikiyah,” reported Israeli journalist Amichai Stein.

President Trump earlier Monday morning warned Turkey, a NATO ally, that he would destroy their economy if they did anything Trump “considers to be off” in a pair of tweets.

TRUMP: As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!

Smells like a pile of bovine excrement.

POTUS doesn’t talk this way, it’s likely an exaggeration by locals opposed to the US.

President Trump is always ten steps ahead of everyone on the world stage.

He stand with America and our Kurdish friends.

I just checked his twitter feed. This was taken exactly as he posted it.

FWIW, I think the “in my great and unmatched wisdom” is just more trolling of the opposition.

Trump has proven himself a strategic genius without parallel in history.

He is perfectly entitled to talk up his ability, he has nothin to be modest about !

Ok thanks for checking it out. Trump is not modest but he’s usually measured. I think you got it right, he’s trolling the state media like the laser pointer to the cat.

This is just another reminder of just how screwed up that part of the world is (and has been throughout mankind’s history). And of course, our own political chess game as only served to complicate it worse.

Lets see - WE are against Syria because of the dictator al-Assad who uses chemical weapons on his own people...

We have supported the Kurds historically because of their opposition to the radical muslims in the region - including in Iraq (against ISIS and other terrorist groups).

WE have a rollercoaster relationship with Turkey - sometimes warm, sometimes cold - but Turkey absolutely HATES the Kurds - and they currently have hard-line leadership, so they are trying to preempt any possibility of a Kurdish state being established.

It is a giant mess - and really is a “no-win” for the US.

Trolling is EXACTLY what the inclusion of that descriptor is.

US defense officials shut down Northern Syria airspace to Turkey

No, that is not what happened at all. Cutting them off from our ISR just means they don't get to use our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets. They will have to rely on their own assets. We are NOT "shutting down" Syrian Airspace.

What about the story that Trump is pulling US out of Syria?

Was that a cover story to allow the Turks to do this?

It may just be trolling but it is out of place here. While I am in agreement that enough war is enough, people are dying and he should simply stick to the reality that we have had enough war and his job is to keep American service men out of harms way if the issue is not central to our security and point out th aas t Turkey can be dealt with in other ways. The language he used makes him look like the overly praised star of a high school musical.
