Hank Williams - I Saw The Light
I wandered so aimless life filed with sin I wouldn't let my dear savior in Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night Praise the Lord I saw the light I saw the light, I saw the light No more darkness, no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light Just like a blind man I wandered along Worries and fears I claimed for my own Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the Lord I saw the light I saw the light, I saw the light No more darkness, no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light I was a fool to wander and stray Straight is the gate and narrow's the way Now I have traded the wrong for the right Praise the Lord I saw the light I saw the light, I saw the light No more darkness, no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light

Hank is all time great.
His gospel songs were classic, this one included.

Thanks for that memory.
Did you know when Hank died that on the back seat of his Cadillac were a number of songs he hadn’t recorded?
There is a CD called The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams (Columbia, 2011).
Big country music fan and scholar Bob Dylan was given the opportunity to work with the material and he said it was too big a burden for one man to honor it, so he chose one song and gave the others to trusted artists such as Alan Jackson,Levon Helm,Merle Haggard and others.
There will only be one like Hank Williams.
My absolute favorite is “I'm so lonesome I could cry.”
Just gut wrenching.
Once when we were traveling from Florida to Oklahoma, We had the radio on one of those 100,000 watt stations and they were spending the entire day on Hank Williams, Telling stories about him, of course playing his music and interviewing other musicians who knew him and there were a lot.
Minnie Pearl was riding in the back seat of a car headed to the next performance and the subject of “I saw the light” came up. Hank told Minnie that was the problem, he just could not see any light. It really affected her.
A couple of the old timers who knew him said he was unimpressive, just an ordinary guy but when he got on stage he totally changed.
We listened to it for hundreds of miles and really enjoyed it.
you might enjoy Hank’s story in Country Music now streaming free at PBS.org.
She said it was heartbreaking.
So great when you discover something new, ( and he’s been there all this time.)
Enjoy! Two of mine like that were the Carter Family and Dr. Ralph Stanley.
Love this
Here's another one I like a lot, a bit sadder, but ending with a glimpse of hopeful light.

That is a great series. Burns tied up a lot of lose ends I had about the history of country music.
