This Woman Found a Rare $250,000 Rolex Beneath the Cushions of Her Couch
Robb Report ^ | 29 Sept 2019 | PAUL ALTIERI

She plans to "buy house and get a boob job" with her new found fortune.

. A few months back, I received a call from a woman in Canada about a watch she wanted to sell. As she tells it, she was sitting on the couch one day when she dropped her phone. She stuck her hands in between the cushions to retrieve it, but instead of her phone, she pulled out a watch. Upon closer inspection, she saw that it was a Rolex.

Rolex produced the manually wound Daytona ref. 6241 from 1966 to 1969, roughly. During this short three-year period, fewer than 3,000 pieces of the 6241 were made and just a small percentage of those were fitted with the “exotic dial” (that would later be nicknamed the Paul Newman dial). As with all collectibles, rarity and market popularity are golden attributes when dealing with vintage timepieces—and the Paul Newman Daytona 6241 boasts a combination of both.

And the watch was indeed a genuine vintage Rolex Daytona 6241 Paul Newman, worth north of $250,000.

From the article:

So how exactly does a sofa magically produce an ultra-rare and highly desirable vintage chronograph? Turns out the conjuring couch was purchased for a whopping $25 at a thrift store four years before the Daytona discovery. The woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) did dutifully call the store, asking if anyone had inquired about a missing watch or if they knew who had been the previous owner (she wisely didn’t disclose the brand to the person handling the call).

Around 20 years ago, I found an engraved Spyderco knife behind the seat of my car. I could not for the life of my figure out who it belonged to.

I knew it was an expensive knife but I had no idea how expensive. At a gun show the first knife booth offered me $75 for it with no haggling. I let him have it.

Maybe 15 years later it hit me who the owner had been. I would have tried to locate him but decided it just wasn’t worth the trouble.

Many years ago I bought a couch right after I moved into my first apartment. About a year later, while digging for the remote, I found a diamond encrusted tennis bracelet. Fortunately I remembered the name of the family and the street so I looked them up in the phone book and called them. The lady was so surprised, she thought it was gone forever. Turns out her husband bought it for her when their daughter was born. The wife was in tears when I brought it back to her and she gave me a $100 reward.

Are my wife and I the only people that vacuum our couch?

I can’t imagine buying a used couch, then NEVER moving the cushions to clean it.

Just gross

At that age a boob job may just consist of a reduction and lift to put the girls back where they used to be.

Gravity is a bitter enemy.

Back in the late 1960s us kids in our South Jersey neighborhood would always rip apart any couches or easy chairs that were thrown out to the curb. We always found change. Hell, one could buy a big RC Cola and a small bag of chips for a quarter!

“She plans to “buy house and get a boob job”...

With that kind of money, she could get BOTH boobs done.

My first thought also. Imagine how happy she would make that person.

You must be really young. I remember when you could buy an RC Cola and a bag of Toms peanuts for a dime.

Some people would pour the peanuts into the drink.

Why would a fifty or sixty year old woman want a boob job?

She is the rightful owner of abandoned property. Does the former owner want his/her spouse to know that the article eas found amonst the cushions of that particular sofa?
