DALLAS (KRLD) - Amber Guyger has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder of her neighbor Botham Jean.
Jurors were considering the sentence for a former Dallas police officer whom they convicted of murder for shooting her neighbor in his apartment, which she says she mistook for her own unit one floor below.

Personally, I think thats a fair outcome.
I believe justice was done. Just surviving for ten years is going to be tough for her.
Five years to Life was the sentence range........
Should have been tried in civil court and not in the criminal court. Even taking into account how bad the facts are in this case, it was an accident and not a crime.
I thought an article gave her age as 31.
Yup, her conviction has appeal written all over it.
I was figuring she had time served and if she got out in half the time she would be around 35, but apparently there is no parole for murder in TX, so she’ll be around 40.
You might be surprised. Female cops are often butch.
She walked into a mans apartment and shot him. Then she made excuses. When she was being tried she used the tears defense. It only works for women. Thank God the jury didnt let her walk. The tears defense probably shortened her possible sentence which is sad but at least she didnt get away with it.
Just surviving for ten years is going to be tough for her.
Im sure she will do great in prison.
She can smuggle in a cell phone and sext her married boyfriend.
She can crack jokes about MLK with her cell mate.
She can talk to the girls in the prison yard about he texts where she declare that she is s racist.
In the lunch line she can tell everyone the details of the murder she committed.
I am Definitely not anti-cop but I do believe her job helped in her trial and sentencing.
It gnaws in the back of my mind that if I had been working hard, maybe had a few drinks and went home to the WRONG house and fatally shot the ‘intruder’ that the case would have been handled differently.
If nothing else, SHE (well the LEO— sex or race doesn’t matter inre shooter or shootee) should be held to a HIGHTER standard and her punishment far more than I or the ‘average citizen’ who just made a mistake would have gotten.
It also certainly doesn’t help my way of thinking when I hear a ‘Black leader’ state on a National News Feed, that the conviction was a ‘Victory for the African American community’.
If it is/was a victory, it should be a victory for ANYONE that would have the nerve to sit in his/her own living room, to make sure the IDIOT that came into his/her house and shot him/her dead was properly ‘punished’.
If any of us, walked into someone’s apartment and shot them, would our sentence be 10 years?
I think not....
All are equal, only some are more equal than others.
The brother of the victim said he wants only the best for Amber and gave her a hug. He said he doesn’t have any hate for her.
Agree...
If it was a mistake and you weren’t going in there trying to kill someone, you’d probably get 10 years, too, or maybe less or possibly nothing.
Maybe. The population will not be kind to her.
Holy crap, I’m sitting here speechless! I was watching live coverage on Court TV, the brother of the victim just forgave Amber Guyger, said he had love for her and was allowed to embrace Amber in a hug for over a minute! It was one of the most touching and moving things I’ve ever seen in my life!
You know, I have to say I agree with your sentiments. This wasnt, evidently, a preplanned outride murder. It was a mistake! A horrible mistake, yes. However thats what it was and a finding of a lesser man slaughter would have been more appropriate. Involuntary manslaughter is what Im referring too. Since when do we put people away for life over a mistake, no matter how egregious.
In retrospect his sentence should have been longer for giving Diane Feinstein's career its big opportunity (she became mayor after Moscone's death).
Cops have NO friends in prison. Unless she is going to Club Fed, which I assume she is going to some female ass pounding prison, then she is going to have it very hard. This was not premeditated murder. It was murder 2 at best. I think 10 years is very fair.
Contrast this with how many police officers got off Scott free for similar crimes for the last 100 years due to the thin blue line of silence.
I think this is a fair sentence and justice was done.
