A gay high school senior in Tennessee was crowned to his school's homecoming court Friday night while wearing a dress, which was met with widespread support from school officials and fellow students.
White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee, posted a photo Friday congratulating Brandon Allen, 17, on his victory.
The image, which has been liked and shared thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter, showed Allen covering his mouth in shock and wearing a gold sequin off-the-shoulder gown, diamante tiara and holding a floral bouquet awarded to members of the royal court, a gender neutral title that the school introduced this year in place of the traditional Homecoming King and Queen titles.
"Thank you to everyone who has contributed to me becoming queen," Allen, who identifies as gay, wrote on his Instagram profile. "You guys truly looked stunningly beautiful and I am so honored to have been able to walk with you guys!!"
Junior Emmett Campbell, 16, who shot the photo and identifies as transgender, told NBC News: "It was such an incredible thing to witness. It was a moment of acceptance and validation for the LGBT+ community from our entire school."
Jonathan Van Ness of Netflix's 'Queer Eye' series, who is known for questioning gender norms with his clothing, praised the photo as "beautiful" on Twitter.

Seriously - we're screwed if this (and these) is the future of our country.
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity?
Ten Years After
The reality is that this happens ALL THE TIME.
Homosexuals are always welcomed. Always cheered. Always chosen Prom King or Queen. There seems to be endless acceptance of this lifestyle all across the country. That doesn't mean every Freeper accepts it. But, culturally, in the US, in 2019, this is just an accepted lifestyle.
And STILL the LGBTQXABC people resent the constant hatred and intolerance that makes their life SO difficult.
Drama queens have everything they have ever asked for, and they still throw hissy fits everywhere. Because it's never enough.
Let’s hope high school is the extent that “vote for this person or you’re a bigot” still works.
What misguided nitwits. Why is being mentally ill being rejoiced and awarded? It is similar to a 1950’s county fair freak show. “Pay $.25 to see the 3-headed boy” or similar to the 1980’s when people went to mental asylums to be “entertained:” by the resident lunatics.
I expect this in CA, not TN.
When you lose God, this is what you get.
I guess I missed that. Oh well, life is so short...
Honk! Honk!
Where da’ White wimmens at?

Momma’s got the correct reaction. When paying for my gas at a local variety store a few days ago in walks a early 20 year old guy with long hair a flowing skirt and a nice white blouse with high heels, I looked at him and just started chuckling on my way out of the store.
"Make that three hard boiled eggs."
With all of the insanity occurring in this country, I truly believe we’re circling the bowl. When we’re out and about or traveling, my husband and I are truly amazed by the assorted mutants we see. The younger generation is a mess.
I remember when Tennessee used to be part of America.
