Theres a lot of talk about an Illinois exodus. We took a closer look at the reality behind the chatter.
During that time, the gap between the number of people leaving the state and those arriving has widened. Those losses were formerly offset by gains from international migration and births, but these numbers have also decreased recently. As a result, the overall state population began to fall in 2014.
The latest number puts Illinois 49th out of the nations 50 states on net migration loss. Only Alaska had a worse rate, with a loss of 11 people per 1,000 residents.
Where Illinois really lags, the data shows, is in attracting new residents. In 2017, Illinois rate of in-migration was third-to-last nationally, even when factoring in people who moved to Illinois from other countries.
Of about 339,000 people who reported moving from Illinois to another state in 2017 roughly 3% of the states population most had been living in Cook County or one of its suburban counties.
Cook County, by comparison, had an estimated 26 people per 1,000 residents leave the state.
Those who left the area were more likely to be young; the largest group, 28%, were in their 20s when they moved away.
Its the best, Thacker said of her new home. Toward the end of their time in the city, Thacker said she found herself thinking, as she searched for street parking: This is the last straw. I cant do it anymore.
I tell people we spent $3,000 more but got three times the amount of space (a four-bedroom home vs. a three-bedroom condo), said Wilson, 49, who works at the Indiana University Northwest campus in Gary.

Yep! I'm looking at jobs in eastern Tennessee and South Carolina at the moment. Interviewed for them already progressed to second round and hoping to get an offer.
I'll be out of Illinois as fast as I can be. This state absolutely SUCKS.
That must be it... no one who isn't 'hiding out' would bother going to that democrat run hellhole.
And then Ms. Thacker and her girlfriend will repeatedly vote Democrat in their new state, along with thousands of other arrivals, so that when they retire, they can sell the house and move into another cramped condo with few options for parking once again.
Escape from Chicago!
91 out of 102 illannoy counties voted for Trump. The number 1 economic killer here are real estate taxes. That’s the straw that breaks most peoples’ backs. That layered on top of ever rising income taxes, off the charts graft and corruption, endless chicken shit laws, endless democrat control of the levers of government, Chicago crime, gun control, and much much more. Chicago/crook county and to a lesser extent the collar counties kill the state.
That is very true.
If people keep moving out, how are they going to have enough taxpayers to support the pension benefits of public employees??
Two words: Exit Tax.
Impossible? They have them effectively already, in the guide of a real estate transfer tax, which Chicago was considering raising further on the wealthy.
“from international migration and births”
Just what you need. Build that tax base... Oh wait.
“Were talking about low educated, work indifferent, values compromised individuals.”
I really like that description. Could we just shorten it to bums?

I assume those rates are higher now?
These are the numbers discussed:
I know some who moved from Oak Park to South Bend. Their AirB&B income from football weekends pays the annual mortgage.

Yep. 11 counties run this state. The situation here is hopeless.
We are leaving as soon as humanly possible.
L
Godspeed mate.
Yep, the rounder behind allah this has been doin this for millennia. This aint the first time a place has been devastated intentionally.
Lots of Illinois tags in Kansas. However, I think it’s just because it costs a lot less to tag in Illinois than Kansas. Not some kind of mass exodus.
Speaking of Illinois exodus, the Cubbies were officially eliminated from the post-season.
Come to Wisconsin - but avoid Dane & Milwaukee Counties like the plague they are! :)
I moved out of Dane County three years ago - should’ve done it much sooner!
