A hair stylist has revealed that we should only wash our hair once a week - and we can just use water to rinse it in between washes.
Paul Windle, owner of Windle London, reveals that if you wash your hair too much you get a rebound effect and the scalp keeps making more oil - therefore making it look and feel more greasy.
The top stylist also revealed that if our hair does feel dirty then a simple rinse with water can be just as effective as using a product, as shampoos and conditioners just loosen any dirt in the hair.
When you do come to washing your hair you should also note how much shampoo you're using: 'If it's not foamy enough, add more water, not more product and massage it in,' Paul said.
Paul, who has just launched a hair lab in the Lake district where all of Windle London's products are formulated, also revealed his other top tips to Femail around hair care, including what product ingredients we should avoid and how to talk to your hairdresser to avoid any hair disasters.

Or better yet, use a good body wash.
This hairstylist (far from an expert or scientist) hasn’t seen my daughter’s hair!
And I promise - rinsing with water doesn’t help the dirty and dingy smell.
Maybe this is the advice for those who are too lazy to work, too lazy for physical activity, and don’t ever get “dirty” from actually doing something constructive?
If you are a man, unless you workout you should only shower 3 times a week. That manly smell attracts women and the pheromones wash off or are masked by the fragrances in soap. Daily showering is a post Victorian thing anyways. I tested this theory out, a thing I learned in the book “No More Mr Nice Guy” by Dr Robert Glover. A book about dating and relationships(among other things). All the women I dated said they LOVED my smell...I showered only when I worked out. That was 3 times a week.
We should only take showers once a year to prevent climate change, Greta is very disappointed with us adults
If it works with hair it should work with the whole body and dishes.
Over the years I have seen people swear by discontinuing washing your hair except once in awhile. They show how you have to go through the bad part of getting your hair used to it and you end up with better hair.
I have never done it
and pans.
I know you aren’t suppose to wash certain kinds of pans but I just can’t do it.
“Or better yet, use a good body wash.”
I tried cleaning with body wash (not my hair). I smelled like a French whore for 2 days.
Well, there you go.
Reads like someone’s new line of hair products got rejected....
In the Marine Corps having a funky smell build up while in garrison might tend to get a troop held down in the shower and scoured with a wire brush.
I saw nothing of course, just sayin’.
You too can have greasy hair. What’s next? Dental care advice from the Brits? How to make your teeth resemble baked beans?
I could never get away with that.
After three days the top of my head would look like a used rag from Jiffy Lube.
After a week it would catch fire like the Cuyahoga River.
No heat would be even better.
There are those that believe is sleeping or napping outdoors in the cold and taking cold showers for health reasons - not climate reasons.
I don’t know the efficacy of this but I do it. Cold baths. I think it keeps me healthier but have no evidence. I don’t get sick in winter. I admit I don’t soak in a cold bath in the winter. It is a quick rinse off.
Viva la France!
Uh oh, another hair thread.
Pine Tar soap - you can smell like a nice campfire.
