It’s been a rough morning for me, so I sure am glad I read this post. I also love Kalispell. Thanks!

I know Borders are smart, but how did she get out of a locked room?

“Their 7-year-old Border collie, Katie, was no longer in the room. She had apparently managed to unlatch the door, possibly spooked by a thunderstorm that had swept through the area.”

Bull-loney. Someone let that dog out. Hotel doors are often tremendously hard to open. That dog was probably barking and barking and barking. The Staff had had enough and out goes the dog.

Great story with a happy ending!

Back in the 70's, my parents had cabin in the woods in northern Michigan that they would weekends and summer holidays and vacations up there. They also had two dogs, a big German Shepherd and a medium sized poodle that were inseparable.

One week in July when mom and dad were up at the cabin, the two dogs wandered off and ultimately got lost. Mom and dad spent three days driving the logging trails looking for those two goof balls and would drop off articles of clothing hoping they would find one and settle on it. Dad even left a hunting jacket on the side of a trail that someone actually picked up and took it.

At the end of day three and a full day of searching, they drove into the small town of McKinley which was only about 3 miles away to have supper in the only bar and restaurant in town. (didn't even have a gas station).

To their amazement, behind the bar were the two dogs sound asleep. They had wandered into the town that evening and the bar owner, recognizing them, took them in.

They must have had one heck of a time since they had porcupine quills in their faces and reeked of skunk spray.........LOL!

Ever since, the family always referred to that event as Zarek and Poco's Great Adventure.........

My daughter was visiting us from Ft. Polk, LA where her husband was stationed. Her dog escaped the dog sitter off into the LA woods/swamps. Not good. I told her to catch next plane back and go out in back yard and call her name loudly. Hours later dog returned safely as hoped...to their back yard. A nail biter.

After a lot of searching, they found him!

I'm sure it was "One Fine Day" for Carole King, when she got to remind her dog "You've Got a Friend".

A Border Collie.

I totally believe that she figured out how to open the door. She probably disconnected the door alarm and rewired the motel to code while she was at it.
