The novelist behind the Rambo series is waging war against his own creation.
Author David Morrell, who breathed life into Vietnam War vet and one-man wrecking crew John Rambo in his 1972 novel First Blood, is the latest critic to badmouth Sylvester Stallones newest film.
I agree with these Rambo: Last Blood reviews. This film is a mess, tweeted Morrell on Friday. Embarrassed to have my name associated with it.
Morrell stated he had initially been involved in the creation of Last Blood, which was to show a more impassioned Rambo; instead, Matthew Cirulnick completed the gory screenplay.
I felt degraded and dehumanized after I left the theater, the 76-year-old, Canadian-born writer told Newsweek. Instead of being soulful, this new movie lacks one. I felt I was less a human being for having seen it, and today thats an unfortunate message.

Great review...thanks.
Hope you are not referring to me. I never called for Morrell to be ostracized, but to abandon his hypocrisy. If he repels people as a result of his viewpoints, that is on him, but I would never want him silenced.
You remind me of a liberal. If you dont like someones opinion you want them ostracized. Good job, First Amendment proponent
Ooh. Think Kelly McGillis can play a straight woman again?
Didn't think of walking out and tackling some projects around the house Mr. Drama Queen?
On the other hand I really like the movie. All the bad guys get slaughtered. Justice is obtained and the true character of members of human traficking cartels is put on display. We need to add another 20’ to the heights of the wall being built and about 50,000 troops on the border with machine gun towers, patrol drones, and rapid response agents.
And the people of Mexico are not generally portrayed as badd. There will probably be a follow on movie to this because hes not dead. and there is a potential journalist in jeopardy still in Mexico.
it qualifies as a period Film that refers to the period before Donald Trump was president. The bush, clinton and obama era border policy.
The Expendables.
Let’s say apart from the short entry sequence everyone in the movie but Rambo is Mexican. It has exactly 3 decent Mexicans out of hundreds of them in the movie:)
Hope Disney/Marvel doesn’t get the rights next; don’t want to see John Rambo getting dosed with gamma rays and turn into Hulked-Out Rambo.
But of course they didn’t used to be. Well I guess IT didn’t used to be. The first Rambo movie, the one based on the book, was NOT a blood and guts action movie. It was actually a pretty thoughtful movie about how crappy we treated Viet Nam vets. Then came the sequel and the series became about explosions and stupid stuff. Most series go off the rails and lose their vision, but Rambo did it QUICK.
Hence the parody I posted from “Hot Shots”.
Morrell should do the world a favor and kill himself.
It was a pretty accurate portrayal of Mexicans in my book. I am sorry you were triggered.
He is so upset he is going to give away any residuals he gets from the box office and DVD or streaming royalties, right??
Stallone is a gun grabber
Maybe but it still wasn’t fair to portray orcs that way. All of the orcs Ive known were far kinder gentler humanoids.
