In an exclusive U.S. TV interview, Edward Snowden said he would like to return home but that the U.S. won't agree to a fair trial.
"I would like to return to the United States. That is the ultimate goal. But if I'm gonna spend the rest of my life in prison, the one bottom line demand that we have to agree to is that at least I get a fair trial. And that is the one thing the government has refused to guarantee because they won't provide access to what's called a public interest defense," Snowden told "CBS This Morning."
The former NSA contractor is shedding new light on his decision to reveal classified documents about the U.S. government's mass surveillance program back in 2013. Snowden disclosed government programs that collected Americans' emails, phone calls and internet activity in the name of national security and was subsequently charged under the Espionage Act for doing so. A congressional report said his disclosures "caused tremendous damage to national security."
In his new memoir, "Permanent Record," Snowden tells his story in detail for the first time and speaks about his life in exile in Russia. Snowden, who now identifies himself as a privacy advocate, said his biggest issue with standing trial in the U.S. is that the government won't allow the jury to consider his motivations.

OK, let’s give him what he asks for — a fair trial.
If Hillary and/or Obama are at least indicted, it would be a sign that things might be changing.
ML/NJ
If he tells us he has incriminating information on Obama and Hillary I say, sure.
Snowden , deepstate CIA operative embedded in the NSA to discredit them.
How so?
As far as I can tell, Snowden is one of the greatest American patriots that ever lived.
Better stay away, Ed..... There is no such thing as a fair trial in the USA anymore.
He is a raving lunatic if he comes back because they promise him a “fair trial’.
he should stay where he is, and enjoy a nice life as a reward for his service to our nation.
If he comes out, he’ll be thrown into solitary.
Same here, he exposed that our own government CANNOT be trusted to respect it’s own Citizens. “It can never happen here” Changed to not just happening, but happening to every single one of us. We were absolutely being criminally violated and now we want to kill the messenger who exposed it.
First, he needs to imitate Bradley Manning and become part of an oppressed genital-mutilated group. Maybe he’ll get a lighter sentence that way. /s
Hey Snowden. Remember what’s his name Epstein?
Hmm. Never thought of that.
Maybe old Brad was smarter than I thought :p
He’s never getting a fair trial. What he should get is a safer place to be then Russia. I’d recommend Scandinavia.
Hey Eddie - your best chance is if you declare yourself to be a Dhimmicrat!
The day after the fair trial for everyone involved in the Kenyanesian Usurpation is when Snowden should turn himself in.
A patriot does not send classified information to russia and china. Yes the NSA wrong to spy on Americans, but there were other ways to deal with it other than harming our security.
He claims he was not covered by whistleblower laws so he could not go to congress, so instead he leaks it to the world. How did leaking to the world provide him any protection.
He needs to be arrested, tried and executed as a trader.
The Snowden affair is a reminder that in some cases, there ARE NO “good guys”.
He’d be Arkancided faster than you could say “Jeffrey Epstein.”
There is nothing illegal about trading.
I disagree. In the end, only God will judge us.
Everyone of us... If faced with such things have... We do it to the best of our judgments.
And, if you know much about the Obama Presidency, it was the one that came down the harshest at whistleblowers.
Which is typical. Often the people who bleat the hardest about justice, truth and the American way.
Are the people that care the least about it.
Nay. Mock it...
