WASHINGTON — U.S. warships and aircraft sank or heavily damaged six Iranian navy ships Monday as a major confrontation erupted in the Persian Gulf in the wake of the United States’ early morning strike against two Iranian oil platforms, the Reagan Administration said.
U.S. and Iranian forces fired on each other in the broadest and most direct conflict yet, suddenly escalating what for months had been a war of nerves in the volatile waterway.

Also consider that we're in a sanctions situation with Venezuela. Another thing to consider is the US population, as a whole. How long would our "civilization" last if the US actually suffered the consequences of a war that affected our infrastructure, our communications, and our access to food and other necessities? We'd be fighting countries where most of the residents don't have much to lose and their populations are used to toughing it out.
A mission to decapitate the Iranian navy, af and nuclear sites is not a war.

But to answer your point, yes, I absolutely think war is not just a 0 or 1 matter, that there really are shades of grey, that when you go shopping for wars, there is a whole, comprehensive line-up to shop from and then get expensively sucked into.
What I think is that when we take the American toe and geeently dip it into the Iranian pool, to test the waters, we wil suddenly find the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Israel and maybe all of Europe leap up and shove us into the deep end, very happy to see how hard this credulous swimmer can stroke.
All of them will grab their Iranian dishes for Felix Unger to wash FOR THEM.

President Trump and people who actually stick to his agenda were speculating about President Trump meeting with Iranian leaders at the UN this week. And now the talk is about not granting Iranian leaders Visas to enter the US.
