At highly rated Maspeth High School in Queens, students know they can play hooky, skip course work, flunk tests and still pass.
They call it the Maspeth Minimum, meaning everyone gets at least the minimum grade or score needed to pass or graduate, no matter what.

This is a must-read article which perfectly backs up what I've been saying about the shell-game quality of NYC public schools. Any school which seems to have high passing stats, excluding the few "elite" schools DumBlASSio is trying to ruin by eliminating the entrance exam, gets them the way described in this article. All fakery, intimidation of teachers, cheating, etc. So glad to be out of this filthy criminal enterprise known as the NYC public schools. Anyone with a sense of integrity really suffers being forced to do the things described here or lose their job.

How many of these students took the SAT? I’d love to know what the average scores were. I don’t know how you could cheat on the SAT as easily as you can cheat on the Regents.

It’s the socialist way. Produce people who are incapable of doing anything more than vote to take other people’s money for a living.

More educational innovations from the Teaching Profession. No, pal. More "educational" innovations from the lefty pols forcing their agenda on to school administrators who then force it on their teachers. They've already forced all the veteran teachers who wanted to teach quality stuff out the door with harassment, false charges and hearings, etc.

They had a big thing like this in the Atlanta area about a decade ago. I can’t remember whether anyone went to jail, but I think they got some guilty pleas from teachers and administrators.

How many of these students took the SAT? Good question. The SAT and ACT have been horribly dumbed down over the last decade, but you still have to be able to read and solve problems quickly to get a decent score. Kids that can't read well should not do well on the English and Science parts, and kids that need a calculator to find 2 + 2 should not do well on the math.

It has been brought to my attention that you can BUY a higher score on SAT or ACT tests.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Colleges are becoming “SAT optional”; they’ll simply ignore it so uneducated fake students can attend.
My children described teachers offering grade increases if students would bring in cans of food for food drives. It is all a sham; only children with motivated parents will be educated (in spite of, not because of, the education industry) - and then they’ll have to deal with the envy - and voting patterns - of their less-motivated classmates.

I know of an eastern Iowa high school whose policy is allowing students to test and re-test until they pass... and they WILL pass. The GPAs of these kids is something to behold, but things frequently go a bit crumbly during their first year at college. The whole fiasco continues to be one of those "emperor with no clothes" deals - the drug problem being another - that the important people in the community make sure never gets mentioned.
While it might be better than some states, Iowa's old "best education in the nation" schtick has worn thin.

What can be bought, so it seems, is proctors who changed SAT scores. That's the real crime. The SAT is the great equalizer, where students from imperfect backgrounds compete on an even playing field. It's helped a lot of students prove themselves, especially since the 1980s when public schools prepared their students with courses on test taking and fundamental skills.
My point? SAT proctors sign on to very strict rules. The ones who changed answers are the folks who belong in jail.
