GameStop's new CEO, George Sherman, says the company "is in a tough place" and "needs to make some changes" to keep up with the video game industry.
GameStop's total global sales dropped 14.3% to $1.3 billion in the second quarter, the company reported Tuesday. Hardware declined 41.1%, while software sales dropped 5.3%, as Nintendo Switch titles grew. The net loss was $415.3 million, reported CNN.
"We're at the end of the console cycle," Sherman told CNN Business Wednesday. "Gaming as an industry could not be stronger ... it's us that needs to pivot. It's GameStop that needs to make some changes."

Every AAA title I see is loaded with leftism. It seems like the legacy of Gamergate is gaming getting worse. Its not their fault. Its the leftist developers saying, Oh, you guys dont want a leftist agenda in your games? Hold muh soy latte.
That, and I suppose digital downloads are finally starting to eclipse physical sales.
It’s the Blockbuster conundrum.
“That, and I suppose digital downloads are finally starting to eclipse physical sales.”
I seem to recall places called video rental stores...
The Gamestop model is obsolete. Physical games aren’t the sellers they once were. Millenial gamers don’t want to own physical ‘anything’, so downloading a $60 game is just fine for those morons. Older gamers don’t respect GameStop for their practice of selling opened games as ‘new’, so are happy to buy from just about anywhere else.
I wanted Gamestop to go bankrupt years ago. They’ve done so much damage to the game market with the way they have actually destroyed so many game manuals and game boxes. You trade in your old NES game, complete and in mint condition? They gave you a couple of bucks in trade, kept the cartridge and threw out the rest of it.
Where GameStop managed to make tons of money over the years was on their pre-order practices. You could pre-order almost anything with them, and years in advance. So they sat on you pre-order money making interest off of it. I mean, good for them, but it’s like they bred this completely idiotic version of the modern gamer, and I hate them for it.
Sad, but who didn’t see that coming? I think my son and I only bought one thing there in the last year. I didn’t renew my premium membership for the first time.
It’s the cloud. Yes that great big holding tank in the sky. Full of software to download including what used to be the untouchable game carts. And that’s the way it should continue to go. Since I have a PC for gaming it’s Steam. XBOX and PS same thing through their streaming services.
I’ve only been in a GameStop a couple of times, many years ago with my daughter. My only comment is that I think they may have over-saturated the market in some areas, where I’ve seen 2 or 3 stores within a couple of miles of each other.
At a time when a gigabyte can be downloaded from Steam and other gaming sites within minutes, using the cheapest broadband connection in most places, I’d say Gamestop has finally met its sell-by date. Literally.
Every AAA title I see is loaded with leftism.
This is true and it just sucks. Everything gets the cancer. As for game stop l guess this was inevitable but its a shame. Physical disks are nice because its great to have a used market. I find that if l am willing to wait a year most big titles can be purchased used for about half price and you get a little money back for your old titles.
Have you heard of Greedfall?
[Have you heard of Greedfall?]
My experience with the computer gaming sector consists of looking at companies like GME and TTWO. I also look at other gaming companies, but those involve games of chance where real money changes hands, like LVS, CZR and WYNN.
I think the last time I set foot in one was for the midnight Wrath of the Lich King release. Thanks to the digital download model, that’s a thing of the past.
And so is Gamestop.
I was just looking on Steam, and it was the top seller.
I was hoping you knew, and had a review. :)

For one of the Borderlands spinoffs and the sequel to The Last of Us, the developers explicitly stated they added gay characters and leftist elements just to piss off conservatives. I think the Wolfenstein games might be infected, but the crazies were triggered by things in the latest Doom. Me, I just stick to the past. My most recent purchase was a version of Donkey Kong for my NES that adds in the cement factory, and Ive been replaying the Monkey Island games.

Pandering to the degenerate crowd doesn’t help either. Another video game crash needs to occur to sanitize the industry from the SJW/feminist/tranny scourge.
I used to dig Half-Life and Portal...
Gamestop got liched! lol.
