A fire service has taken the decision to axe popular TV character Fireman Sam as their mascot.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they had received negative feedback because the mascot was not inclusive enough. He had been used by the fire service for station open days and on advertising materials. Instead they are using gender neutral blue, red and yellow fire extinguishers called Freddy, Filbert and Penelope. Chief fire officer Lez Britzman said: ‘Firefighters nationally and residents locally have raised some concerns that “Fireman Sam” doesn’t reflect the fire service today, in terms of both the job itself and our workforce.
‘We always make sure that we include plenty of activities and other ways to engage children and adults, to help them learn more about fire safety and a firefighter’s role.’ An email has been sent round to all fire stations in the county telling them not to use Fireman Sam in the future. In March this year Fireman Sam was in the firing line along with Peppa Pig for encouraging gender stereotypes. London Fire Brigade hit out at Peppa pig for not using the term ‘firefighter’ in an episode called The Fire Engine.

Not diverse enough to work as a fictional character = doesn’t appeal to the <2% pop and therefore can’t be a symbol of victims overcoming thing and used for political tyrants to show they care.
Just change the name to “Fireman Samantha” because Sam identifies as female. Problem solved. /s

It sounds like we aren’t allowed to say “fireman” anymore because that is offensive to feminist types because what about female fire fighgters etc, yadda yadda yadda.
Some places have changed the name of manholes, and banned signs which read “Men working” because what about if any females are doing those jobs???
Political correctness has gone way too far, in my opinion.
What about transgendered fire fighting personnel, where is their mascot?
How do they know the character’s full name isn’t Samantha? And isn’t labeling certain characteristics as “male” sexist and non inclusive?
But I knew a couple of girls in college who were REAL locomotives!
Put some long golden tresses on Sam and it would be Fireman Samantha. Call her “Sam” for short.

Since it’s 9/11, anyone else remember the effort to commemorate the FDNY firefighters raising a flag in the rubble of the towers? They wanted to make the statue more inclusive by having a woman and a black fighter doing it, in spite of the inconvenient fact that the flag was raised by four white male firemen.
Just put some teets and lipstick on it and drive on.
Just tell everyone he is Muslim, problem solved.
