The names of two officers involved in the shooting of three children in Hugo, OK have been released over a week after the tragic incident took place.
Hugo Police Department detectives Billy Jenkins and Chad Allen have been identified as the officers who opened fire on a vehicle driven by William Devaughn Smith, 21, whom they suspected of robbing a pizza shop. The bullets struck three of the four children sitting in the back seat.
“My 4-year-old daughter was shot in the head, and she has a bullet in her brain, and my 5-year-old has a skull fracture,” mom Olivia Hill told KFOR. “My 1-year-old baby has gunshot wounds on her face. My 2-year-old wasn’t touched with any bullets.”
Police claim they began shooting because Smith was attempting to run them over with his truck, but many dispute this argument, saying officers simply could have moved out of the way rather than opening fire, especially into a vehicle containing children. It should also be noted that officers were in plain clothes that day, meaning Smith very well may not have known the two men approaching him with guns were police.

The man had just committed armed robbery and was trying to get away with his kids in the car. He was not "a reasonable person".
Armed robbery: That means he pointed his gun at people and threatened to kill him if they didn't hand him money. He knew exactly who was coming after him -- the police. It doesn't matter if they were wearing police uniforms or any other costume worn by the Village People. He knew they were the police. It's why he tried to run them over. It's that simple. If the police had causally let him go they would have been responsible for the next people the "reasonable person" threatened to kill over money.

The man had not just committed the robbery. He allegedly committed the robbery April 11.
Heck the first sentence of the article you site said they picked him up on the robbery warrant. Did you suppose he robbed the place, was running from the robbery, and the warrant just miraculously appeared?

Just because they don’t outright use the blunt terminology, it is a constant theme. My grandmother, who emigrated from Northern Ireland and was a very law abiding and religious woman was inclined to take me aside and impart wisdom to me. She once advised me that there were two groups of people one should strenuously avoid: Priests and Policemen. I was a little taken aback by this and asked why. She explained that the reason was the same for both groups. Because they are NEVER around when you need them, but when you wish they would stay away, there they are SURE to be right there!
All joking aside this sounds like a dreadful incident and my heart goes out to the mother of these children. I don’t know why they might have been in the car but robbing a pizzaria is nothing worth shooting anyone over, much less some innocent third party.

Dash cam of the driver would be interesting.
Use what you have to defend yourself. If it weighs 4000lbs and moves at 100mph, use it.
