Armed robbery: That means he pointed his gun at people and threatened to kill him if they didn't hand him money. He knew exactly who was coming after him -- the police. It doesn't matter if they were wearing police uniforms or any other costume worn by the Village People. He knew they were the police. It's why he tried to run them over. It's that simple. If the police had causally let him go they would have been responsible for the next people the "reasonable person" threatened to kill over money.

Heck the first sentence of the article you site said they picked him up on the robbery warrant. Did you suppose he robbed the place, was running from the robbery, and the warrant just miraculously appeared?
