Marriage isnt as popular as it once was. In fact, the marriage rate in the U.S. is the lowest its been in at least 150 years, reports PBS.
A new study, published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, may have one explanation as to why: There arent enough economically-attractive men ones with a good income and a stable job for single women to marry.
In the study, researchers examined couples in heterosexual marriages from 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2017, compiling character profiles (education and income levels) of the husbands. When they analyzed the pool of available men for these economically-attractive traits that demographically-similar single women might look for, there was a shortage of potential matches.
The researchers hypothesized that potential husbands for the single women had an average income nearly 60 percent higher than the actual pool of available men. They were also 30 percent more likely to be employed and 19 percent more likely to have a college degree compared to current bachelors.

That movie is the best. It’s one of a very few I watch a few times a year.
How is that her fault then? The mindset of men is what needs changing. What’s wrong with marrying someone your age or even a little older?
A guy who doesn't smoke pot, has a steady and regular job, and a general plan for their life.
I see the concept of hypergamy playing out up close. They are good girls, and they want men who are at least the same, or "better" than them.
It used to be that people married upon graduating high school or college, usually to somebody they met at school. Then they would build their lives together.
Awfully discriminatory against men, to say there are no male adults.
True married men die sooner than their wives mostly, and especially so if you are married to a raging harpy - but they’ll mostly outlast their single counterparts.
Single people who never marry, on average die sooner.
There’s been plenty of research done to refute your stance.
Believe what you want though...
Women work fewer hours than men in comparable jobs.
Please, do tell, why do men’s mindset need to change?
“LOL its crap that single men die sooner. They have far less to worry about in life. That equates to far less stress. They also dont need to spend so much time to finance someone elses lifestyle, as well as paying down their debt.”
Single men let their bodies and health go down. 100% fact.
Fortunately for me Im good looking smart athletic and sexy , so the lack of income didnt stop her from saying yes!!!!
Wooo hoooooo!
I was replying to this:
“The types of men she will want.....those of a similar age with similar qualifications will want women who are no older than their 20s.”
It’s a socio-cultural mindset by those who have the power. Now women have equal power and in some cases higher earning power as well, since their education rates outnumber men. So it’s a mindset that needs changing in my view.
Why do you think otherwise (presumably)?
Whatever you tax, you get less of.
Not rocket science.
Find a woman who hates you, then hand her the keys to your house and cars.
This is marriage in 2019 - an investment strategy for women.
women who want to marry up? Go to your local airport and start flying lessons. Every pilot I know is “up” and a lot of them are single....just saying.
"I go flying so high, when I'm stoned."
Ive been in the electric trade for about 30 years now
I have yet to ever meet a single female electrician
I have yet to meet a single female solar installer
I have yet to meet a single female roofer
So I guess some professions aint going to get feminized
What research? And what do single men have to deal with?
Exactly what the left wants.
What time do married men have to take care of themselves, when they’re working 40+ hours a week, having to wine and dine her, seeing her family and friends, taking her on vacations, as well as worrying she may cheat on him, whether at home, at work, or if she travels for work?
