Fewer people are getting married because there’s a shortage of economically-stable [tr]

Marriage isn’t as popular as it once was. In fact, the marriage rate in the U.S. is the lowest it’s been in at least 150 years, reports PBS.

A new study, published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, may have one explanation as to why: There aren’t enough “economically-attractive” men — ones with a good income and a stable job — for single women to marry.

In the study, researchers examined couples in heterosexual marriages from 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2017, compiling character profiles (education and income levels) of the husbands. When they analyzed the pool of available men for these economically-attractive traits that demographically-similar single women might look for, there was a shortage of potential matches.

The researchers hypothesized that potential husbands for the single women had an average income nearly 60 percent higher than the actual pool of available men. They were also 30 percent more likely to be employed and 19 percent more likely to have a college degree compared to current bachelors.

Sure, we all could.
My entire point was that there’s some data behind the theory that being alone is not good for your health & longevity. YMMV, and I think your last sentence summarizes it well. IMHO, not too many people view being alone as pure heaven.

I think you missed my point - what advantage do thin eyebrows provide biologically? What advantage does a dress provide biologically? What advantage does make up provide biologically? These are socio-cultural adaptations, nothing more.

My point is that men's preference for younger women is not socio cultural. It is not something that can be changed via political will. It is deeply ingrained in men's brains to prefer what they prefer through millions of years of evolution. Men have always preferred younger women and they always will just as women have always preferred higher status males with more resources and always will.

“You sound kind of bitter about the whole thing”

I’m not bitter at all. I love being married

LOL!
There are always outliers, and what works for one may not work for another. My entire point was a generalization, backed by humanity’s desire for an interconnectedness.

If the hermit life works for you, then so be it.

So then don’t s*** on other people that say marriage is a waste.

Yes, and one “fine” day, there will be the devil to pay - in some cases, quite literally :-(

Their spouse becomes their horse? :-0

Oh, the poor children, they surely must look odd, to say the least... ;-)

Sorry, Sir, but I could not resist that (avovedly lame) pun :-)

Furthermore, as a man with Asperger’s, I often tend to overlook the figurative meaning in any given sentence, taking it in the literal sense instead...

Hah, I easily fit that bill, 37, and fairly fit, but I have way better options than a used up 45 year old woman.

Women are taking over all the professions...Pharmacy, dentistry schools are the same way...

After 30 years of practice, it's really driven the profession into the ground. Stale wages & benefits, catty managers lacking leadership skills, dealing with part-timers, and the innovation of the 70s/80s/90's becoming gross mediocrity.
