Despite efforts to speed up baseball, the average time of a nine-inning game in Major League Baseball is three hours and five minutes.
That equals the mark which was set in 2017, after which MLB and the players association responded by limiting the number of mound visits per game. Other time-saving measures including shortened breaks between innings and eliminating pitches being thrown during intentional walks have been imposed, but MLB games still drag on a snails pace.
One of the biggest reasons games are taking so long is that batters are more focused on hitting home runs and pitchers are more focused on getting strikeouts. That combination has led to batters seeing an average of 3.92 pitchers per plate appearance, the highest mark in the 21 seasons the stat has been tracked.
In order to cut down on wasting time with pitching changes, pitchers will be forced to face at least three batters starting next year.

Liberals.... It would seem they want to get the game over as soon as they possibly can.. They seem hate it when guys have fun play with their balls.. The more they mess with the game, the more fans their going to lose...
You are so right. The Mets bullpen debacle last night was a great example of that. Their coach Callaway is some kind of retard.
Do what they do in organized softball, set a time limit.
Interestingly, the rumor floating around sports radio in New York this season is that Callaway has ZERO authority to make decisions in a game, and that GM Brodie Van Wagenen is basically the team’s manager.

Did you eventually start chugging? Ugh!
I saw the video of that and felt your pain.
One hell of a ninth inning.
But ....... the Mets are still alive. But that's probably hard to hear this morning.
Clocks probably dont belong in baseball, but theres no disputing that pitchers are taking an extra few seconds between pitches compared to any time in the past. That and the seldom-enforced 30 second rule to decide on replay appeal is whats lengthening the games today.
Even back then, a 1-0 pitchers’ duel went by really fast—many of them ended in around 2 hours 30 minutes, very fast by 2019 standards.
LOL! The same idiot GM who gave up the entire Mets' farm system for mega-busts Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz.
And Beer is FREE.
Remember the Heidi game? Different sport but same scenario.
I didn’t say that the games took the same time, only that they are not much longer than before. Personally, I never heard a baseball fan ever complain about the length of game anyways. What will be the next controversy be, underinflated baseballs?!
S***s getting embarrassing. Pace-of-play was Seligs baby. Youd think Manfred would come in and give the issue lip-service and then move on to setting his own agenda, but no. Hes still Seligs cuck.
Look, there aint no kid out there saying, Man, Id watch 162 games a year if it was 2 hours and 45 minutes long, but 3 hours? Id rather just play Call of Duty! Theyre ruining the game with clocks and idiocy while chasing phantoms.
If I had to guess what is slowing the game down, it would be the time it takes to get the game going after the 3rd out. I would hate to see the integrity of the game damaged by say only playing 7 innings and other stat damaging antics.
I just looked at one of those 1952 WS games and it appeared that it took 1 minute to get the batter ready after a 3rd out. Some in between innings were clipped short, so the game was actually a little longer than the video shows, but there was a 7 minute lead-in at the start of the game. So maybe the true time is close as indicated.
They dont want to solve the time in that case because thats advertising time. Thats probably what Manfred really wants to maximize by reducing actual playing time.
