The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Thanks. I just had a late night piece cold. I can never decide if I like bread pudding better cold than warm. They taste really different.
Remind me to post my recipe for Pear Tart. Super simple and it always gets RAVE reviews. I’ll start off next week’s post with it, as we’re darn close to Pear Season around here.
You can use other in-season fruits, too. :)
^THIS^
I cannot WAIT until the puppies are grown and in the kennel full-time, the remainder of the house is painted (the back side is DONE!) and I can fill in holes and assess damage and re-landscape around the foundation of my house again!
We have NOT paid NEARLY enough attention to the humble Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich this season! I’ve had three so far - with many more planned for the near future as tomatoes are late to ripen for me this season. ;)

Final count was 29 ears, by an ag-agent from Rutgers, who certified it to Guiness. Guiness then accepted it as the new record holder.
Previous record was 16 ears, in Iowa.
I really laughed when I read, “the squirrels planted it, not me;” and that he didn’t even fertilize it.
Hope somebody knowledgeable gets some of the seeds from it.
Pretty amazing. Mother Nature wins another round. :)
Did you paint that porch ceiling that neat teal color? Post some pics if you did.
Beau is Bear Hunting this week, so it's currently on hold. He did buy me the beadboard for the ceiling, and I plan on painting it 'Haint Blue' before he re-installs it.
This is the part of the house, from the back, that needs to be re-roofed. The back of the house is pretty much done, as far as painting goes. Mile's foster son is coming down today to work on it some more. 'Landscaping' done by the PUPPIES, but it's just Hosta and will grow back.
This is the east side; he put up the 'Renwick Heather' that's going in four various eaves on the house, so I could squeal and clap my hands in glee. And I did!
Looks like a nice house, looks well built. I’ll have to look up haint blue again. I did once before and really liked it. We have friends with an older farmhouse with a screened in porch and a ceiling like that.
The house was built in 1900. Beau bought it in 1985; it had been sitting empty for 5 years, then started rehabbing it after work while living elsewhere for quite a number of years. It has all the original woodwork and such, and some great light fixtures that he re-wired and kept.
However, it’s been 35 years now and it needs some updates. Flooring, exterior paint, the new metal roof. I’ve painted all of the downstairs rooms - trying to get motivated to do the upstairs rooms now!
Here’s a link to various ‘Haint Blue’ colors. I will probably go with a Sherwin Williams color (Pool Blue) as that’s the brand of paint we’re using on the rest of the house. :)

That’s a very thorough list of the six different groups.
When I have more time later, I’ll have to write down those groups and exactly what plants they contain.
Thanks!
