The drone ran low on energy and ‘FLEW BACK’?
Is that what drones do when they run out of energy, they boomerang back to their starting points?
That sounds like a Wiley Coyote type situation. Worst case scenario.

In this case it does sound like Wylie Coyote, but most of the amateur commercial drones have features to prevent loss like a 'return to base' if the battery level drops below a designated level or if it loses the RF command link to the pilots controller.

That Bomb cartoon is hysterical. I could watch it over & over.

Sounds like he used an Acme Drone, just like Wile E.Coyote.

Reminds me of the video a few years ago where a guy lit a stick of dynamite and threw it. His dog thought he was playing “fetch.”
How many ways can you say “Oh sh_t!”

Yes, almost all civilian models also do this. It takes a GPS location when it is launched, and if they get out of range or the battery gets low they automatically return back to where they came from so that you don’t have to go chase it down. In most cases it is a handy feature, but obviously not in this case.

This story should be accompanied by Looney Tunes sound effects and end-title music.

Almost as good a story as the Palestinian terrorist who did not realize that Israel was on a different time zone than where he was coming from. He set hit bomb to go off an hour early as a result.
