Although this article is almost five years old, Wikipedia says that this bulb is still burning.
“Unfortunately, this bulb type was made for only a year. So dont bother searching for one at your local hardware store”
If they hadn’t stopped making these the lightbulb indusrty would have died adout 99 years ago.
“Something nonpolitical for a Sunday.”
Nonpolitical? That light bulb is a monument to male patriarchy and white supremacy as well as a benchmark in the industrial revolution that caused climate change which has a disproportionate impact on transgendered people and vegans.
Last year I bought some LEDs guaranteed to last 13 years. They lasted just as long as a 100 watt Incandescent but cost 10 times more than the Incandescent bulbs.
I heard about it in high school...late 70s.
Gee, and I thought that our two 33 year old functioning light bulbs were pretty amazing. One of them has been used almost every day during this time and they have survived several moves.
The stronger the vacuum the longer the bulb will last. Light bulbs are designed to burn out after a certain amount of time. They could easily make them last 10-20 years.
I actually did buy some 10-year incandescent bulbs, back when they were being shoved out of our lives. They are rated to burn continuously for those 10 years, roughly 82,000 hours, far longer than typical incandescents. The way they achieved that was to burn cooler and dimmer for the same wattage - thus they were even less efficient. But for some locations, where changing the bulb is a really big deal, like in a nuclear plant, where a shutdown might be required to reach it, the bulbs made perfect sense.
HOT BULB
For better health, you should always burn a 50 watt incandescent bulb close to where you sit all evening long.
LED bulbs are for temporary lighting because they make us depressed. They are great low power bulbs for hallways and even rooms, but always have a 50 watt nearby in your bedroom or living room.

I’m sure it’s been off a number of times due to power outages, either because of construction inside the building or outages in the region.
The dimmist bulbs seem to go on forever. AOC, Tlaib, Omar, Pelosi, Clintons, etc.
Their are multiple American manufacturer’s who make “industrial” incandescent bulb’s for a couple dollars each . They are made legally and do so because when the foolish law was passed they left a loophole for the heavy duty bulbs to be made . Well worth the time to seek these out as the quality and longevity are unsurpassed along with the type of light they emit (easy on the eyes.)
SO you have a 60 watt bulb which is only putting out 4 watts. My guess is that it is running on reduced voltage. Either that or something changed with the filament at some point.
One fact about and incandescent bulb is that as you increase voltage(Which increases wattage) the life span of the bulb decreases exponentially. If you reduce voltage then the lifespan increases exponentially.
Trump’s fault..
“killed off slowly by fluorescents and LEDs”
In the Wikipedia article about halogen lamps there’s this sentence:
“Standard and halogen incandescent bulbs are much less efficient than LED and compact fluorescent lamps ...”
Strange they don’t mention conventional fluorescent lamps which are identical in their method of producing illumination as the compact fluorescents, and have been in common use for at the last 60 years.
Im in the lighting business and I tell people all the time and Thursday absolutely nothing wrong with Edisons lamps
They dont hurt your eyes; theyre perfectly dimmable ; and theyre a dollar
My house was built in the 1860s and the first thing I did was take out all of the compact fluorescent lamps and put in all regular lightbulbs
It is political: I am convinced that Jeff Immelt conspired with Barack Obama to outlaw the incandescent bulb (expired patent) in exchange for political support; in other words, literal fascism.
The CFL was patented and created a kind of monopoly for GE.
Leftists make everything political.
Planned obsolescence is a good thing. Otherwise, many big companies would have gone bankrupt by now.
I am willing to buy more stuff more often in that corporations can live to keep selling me more.
I was wondering if the bulb was still shining...
A bit of trivia: Bob Dylan has in his touring contract, his hotel rooms MUST have incandescent bulbs.
No curly bulbs for the Bobster!
